About the Role
As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in empowering students who speak English as an additional language to access the curriculum, build academic confidence, and thrive socially and academically. Working closely with teachers and the inclusion department, you will help bridge language gaps, foster integration, and champion a culture where every learner can succeed regardless of their starting point.

Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted linguistic and academic support to EAL students on a 1-to-1 and small-group basis across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Assist classroom teachers in adapting learning materials and strategies to make lessons accessible for learners at various stages of English proficiency.
Monitor student progress, track language acquisition milestones, and collaborate with teaching staff to report on academic outcomes.
Foster a welcoming, culturally inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment that celebrates diversity and boosts student confidence.
Support general in-class learning activities and behavior management to ensure calm, productive, and focused lessons.
Requirements
Relevant academic background (degree or equivalent qualification) or a recognised teaching assistant / support qualification.
Proven experience working with young people, ideally within a secondary school or educational setting.
Fluency in an additional community language (highly desirable) alongside an excellent command of spoken and written English.
A strong passion for inclusive education, cultural diversity, and supporting students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
