Chief People Officer in London Area
Job description
Chief People Officer
Location: London with UK-wide travel
Lead the people strategy for a multi-disciplinary construction and engineering business.
This is a pivotal opportunity to join a national contractor delivering complex, high-profile projects across infrastructure and the built environment. Operating in regulated settings and partnering with major clients, the organisation is known for technical rigour, a commitment to safety and a track record of delivery.
As Chief People Officer, you will enable the next phase of growth. Reporting to the Board and leading a lean HR function, you will set the direction across HR, organisational development, culture and workforce capability. The role blends strategic influence with strong on-site presence, ensuring people initiatives translate into practical outcomes across offices, sites and regional teams.
Key priorities include strengthening attraction and retention for site-based roles, developing supervisors and managers, building clear career pathways, and aligning workforce planning with operational needs. You will position HR as a proactive partner, enhance engagement and performance, and support an inclusive, accountable culture where people can do their best work.
We are seeking a strategic HR leader with credibility and commercial acumen. You will bring a proven record of organisational development, workforce engagement and cultural alignment in complex, operational environments. Experience from construction, engineering, infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing or similar sectors would be advantageous. Above all, you combine strategic vision with a practical, people-first approach.
This is a career-defining brief to shape the people agenda for a well-established, growth-oriented contractor with a clear plan for the future.
