Geotechnical Engineer (Project Manager)
RSK Geosciences an RSK Group company are recruiting for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Project Manager) to join the team based in Glasgow, UK. This is a full-time, permanent position. Working alongside an experienced team-based UK-wide, you will project manage a variety of geotechnical and land contamination projects covering sectors including energy infrastructure, renewable energy, development/regeneration projects and local authorities. We have been involved in several high profile and award-winning projects, which have been recognised at the Environment Analyst Brownfield Awards. In addition, several of our staff have been shortlisted for prestigious awards including the Ground Engineering Rising Star Awards and Environment Analyst Technical Lead and Best Early Career Professional, and the RSK Geosciences training programme has won the 2024 Ground Engineering Award for Excellence in Learning and Development. What you can expect in this position As a senior geotechnical engineer/engineering geologist, you'll be responsible for project management of a variety of our geosciences investigations including many of those carried out in a Principal Contractor role for our energy framework clients. These may include larger and more complex geotechnical investigations, with an incumbent management of SHEQ related matters. The role would suit someone with a proactive 'can do' approach, close attention to deal, enthusiasm to get the job done well and ability to get on with a wide range of people. Our current team works out of offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and choice of base location can be offered. What you'll be doing:
- Project managing a variety of geo-environmental and geotechnical ground investigation and interpretative projects for both external clients and for other teams within RSK
- Provide technical leadership to site teams in the day-to-day delivery of projects
- Knowledge of soil and rock logging to current geotechnical standards, including preparation and finalisation of exploratory hole logs within gINT software.
- Scheduling of laboratory testing (with support from geotechnical and environmental specialists within the wider team)
- Preparing health, safety, environment and quality (SHEQ) documentation in line with RSK and client requirements
- Writing factual and interpretative reports including Desk Studies for environmental and/or geotechnical purposes in line with national standards and codes of practice
- Establishing and developing strong working relationships with new and existing clients, which is integral to the growth of the Geosciences Scotland team and the wider business
- Supporting tender managers in preparing fee proposals and occasional tender preparation. BSc or BEng degree level qualified in Geology (or Earth Science), Geotechnical, Chemistry, Environmental Science or a related subject essential.
- A further post-graduate qualification in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical would be desirable but is not essential.
- At least 5 years previous relevant work experience.
- Hold a CSCS card; SMSTS and IOSH/NEBOSH advantageous.
- The role will require some attendance on site in the discharging of project management duties, which could include undertaking site visits and audits to ensure compliance with our Client's safe systems of work.
- Good knowledge of best health and safety practice and the CDM Regulations would be an advantage.
- Registered with a suitable professional body and working towards Chartered status with a relevant institution (e.g. Geol Soc/ICE).
- Ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise workload for independent and team working.
- Skilled with Microsoft Office applications in particular Word and Excel.
- Full UK driving licence essential.
