Religious Education Teaching Role in a Grammar School
A high-achieving grammar school in Tower Hamlets is seeking to appoint a passionate and knowledgeable RE Teacher to join its successful Humanities department from September. This is a full-time role within an academically rigorous and supportive school that values critical thinking, philosophical enquiry, and exceptional teaching.
Religious Education is a highly regarded subject within the school, with students encouraged to explore world religions, ethics, philosophy, and contemporary moral issues through a broad and engaging curriculum.
About the Role
You will teach Religious Education across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons that inspire discussion, reflection, and analytical thinking.
Students will study major world religions, ethical theories, philosophy of religion, social issues, and contemporary debates while developing evaluative writing, empathy, and critical reasoning skills.
You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Religious Studies examinations, supporting students in achieving excellent outcomes and progression to higher education.
You will work collaboratively within a successful Humanities department committed to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Religious Education across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver engaging lessons in religion, ethics, and philosophy
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Religious Studies examinations
Assess student work and provide clear, constructive feedback
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support enrichment opportunities and wider humanities initiatives
Maintain high standards of classroom engagement and achievement

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Religious Education at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in religion, ethics, and philosophy
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level Religious Studies
Experience working in a grammar or high-achieving school setting
Ability to contribute to enrichment or extracurricular initiatives
Strong examination preparation experience
