Pay: £90–£120 per day, depending on experience

TeacherActive is currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Carshalton, South London , starting as soon as possible.

The school supports pupils with a range of special educational needs and additional learning needs . Pupils benefit from a structured and nurturing environment, with staff working closely together to provide individualised support that promotes learning, confidence, independence and positive behaviour.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant , you will provide both classroom-based and individual support, helping pupils to access learning and remain engaged throughout the school day.

You will work alongside teachers and other support staff to adapt activities to individual pupils' needs, reinforce positive behaviour and provide additional support where required. Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils will be an important part of the role.

The successful candidate will be patient, reliable, proactive and confident , with a genuine interest in supporting children and young people with SEN.

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will have:

• Previous experience supporting children or young people
• School-based or SEN experience highly desirable
• Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs
• A patient, calm and supportive approach
• Confidence supporting pupils with learning, engagement and behaviour
• The ability to provide effective 1:1 and small-group support
• Good behaviour management skills
• The ability to follow individual support strategies and learning plans
• An understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
• A reliable, flexible and proactive attitude

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide classroom and 1:1 support for pupils with SEN
• Support pupils with learning activities and classroom engagement
• Adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs
• Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Help pupils develop their confidence and independence
• Support pupils with communication and social interaction
• Work alongside the class teacher to deliver individualised support
• Assist with small-group interventions where required
• Monitor pupils' engagement and progress
• Follow individual support plans and strategies
• Create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals
• Follow safeguarding procedures and prioritise pupils' wellbeing at all times
