Youth Work Degree Apprentice & Teaching Instructor (IAP)

Teaching Vacancies
Redbridge, Greater London

What skills and experience we're looking for

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to develop as a Youth Worker. You need to be passionate about supporting young people with diverse and complex needs, including SEMH, SEND and those requiring additional pastoral support, while completing a fully funded Level 6 Youth Work Degree Apprenticeship.

We are seeking a committed and inspiring individual to join our Access & Inclusion Department as a Teaching Instructor & Youth Work Degree Apprentice based within our Internal Alternative Provision (IAP): “The Base”. The three year apprenticeship will enable qualification at Degree Level, with “learning on the job” linked to university and guided learning.

About the Role

You will play a key role in creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment, helping students to re-engage with education and achieve positive personal, social and academic outcomes.

Working across the IAP and school Behaviour Teams, you will:

• Contribute to personalised learning programmes and reintegration pathways
• Deliver targeted teaching and learning support to individuals and small groups
• Provide mentoring and youth work interventions focused on wellbeing, resilience and life skills
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students as a positive role model
• Support students’ engagement, behaviour, emotional regulation and personal development
• Work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies

This is a unique dual-role, combining education and youth work practice, with the opportunity to apply theory directly to your day-to-day work whilst qualifying at degree level.

We are looking for someone who:

Has a passion for working with young people, particularly those with additional or complex needs

• Is calm, resilient, empathetic and flexible in their approach
• Can build strong professional relationships with students, families and colleagues
• Has experience (or a strong interest in) mentoring, pastoral support or alternative provision
• Is committed to completing a Youth Work Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6)
• Can work both independently and as part of a team

You will be enthusiastic, reflective and motivated by a desire to transform life chances for vulnerable young people.

About the Access & Inclusion Department

The Access & Inclusion Department supports a wide range of pathways, including:

• Internal Alternative Provision (IAP)
• Pastoral Care Centre (PCC)
• SEND and SEMH support
• Additional specialist provisions across the school

Staff work collaboratively to ensure all students have the opportunity to engage, succeed and belong.

What the school offers its staff

We offer excellent professional development, including apprenticeship pathways with dedicated time for staff training and development. A commitment to staff wellbeing including access to an on-site fitness suite, swimming pool, and free parking. Our staff are well regarded as supportive, friendly and welcoming.

Commitment to safeguarding

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Offer of a position is subject to receiving satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS Clearance. In accordance with KCSiE, Safer Recruitment Guidelines and Data Protection Guidelines, we reserve the right to use social media as part of our recruitment processes. Further details are available from the LGA guidance note.
