Position: Behaviour Mentor – Primary & Nursery
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Start Date: Immediate or Next Term

About the School

This welcoming Primary and Nursery School in Camden is known for its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral provision, and commitment to supporting the emotional wellbeing of young children. Serving a diverse and dynamic North London community, the school places emotional development and behaviour support at the heart of its educational approach.

School leaders believe strongly in early intervention and recognise that behavioural challenges in young children are often linked to unmet emotional or developmental needs. With an increasing number of pupils requiring additional support across EYFS and Key Stage 1, the school is seeking a compassionate and skilled Behaviour Mentor to join their team.

Role Overview

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will support children who experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour for learning, or social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, speech and language delays, or attachment-related behaviours.

You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to deliver targeted interventions and consistent behaviour strategies, helping children feel secure, supported, and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 emotional and behavioural mentoring

  • Deliver small group interventions focused on social and emotional skills

  • Support children within Nursery and classroom environments

  • Assist pupils during transitions and daily routines

  • Support behaviour during unstructured times

  • Implement behaviour support plans effectively

  • Use trauma-informed and play-based approaches

  • Collaborate with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams

  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress

  • Contribute to review meetings and planning discussions

  • Build positive relationships with families and carers

  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection standards

The Ideal Candidate

You will be patient, nurturing, and emotionally intelligent, with a genuine passion for supporting young children. The school is seeking someone who understands that behaviour is communication and who can respond with empathy and professionalism.

You should have:

  • Experience working in a Primary, Nursery, or EYFS setting

  • Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, or trauma-informed practice

  • A calm and consistent behaviour management style

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Emotional resilience and flexibility

Experience in childcare, education, psychology, youth work, or mental health is highly desirable.

Professional Development

The school offers structured training, regular supervision, and clear progression opportunities. This role is ideal for candidates planning future careers in teaching, SEN provision, or pastoral leadership.

What the School Offers

  • A caring and inclusive school environment

  • Supportive leadership and experienced staff

  • Access to ongoing CPD and specialist training

  • A fulfilling role supporting early intervention

  • Opportunities for long-term and permanent roles
