London

Job overview

The Liver Service at King’s College Hospital is the best in Europe and is at the forefront of many innovative treatments for liver disease. Acting as a supra-regional and international referral centre, we care for all types of patients with liver disease, including those requiring hepatobiliary surgery, general hepatology, and pre- and post-transplant care.

In addition to our wards the department works closely with the Liver Intensive Care Unit, research facilities, outpatient centre, and dedicated theatres.

Todd Ward is a 21-bedded ward primarily caring for post-liver transplant patients. It also supports pre-transplant patients and those with a variety of liver conditions. You will develop a wide range of skills in both medical and surgical nursing in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

Dawson Ward is a 21-bedded ward for patients who have undergone complex liver, pancreatic, or biliary surgery. You will develop excellent surgical nursing skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.

We are looking for nurses with an interest in liver disease to join our experienced and friendly teams on Todd and Dawson wards. You should have excellent communication skills, work well as part of a team, and be dedicated to providing a high-quality patient experience in line with King’s Values. In return, we offer a robust local induction supported by our dedicated and experienced ward Practice Development Nurses (PDNs).

We welcome Newly Qualified Nurses to our team!

Main duties of the job

Nursing care is at the centre of all services delivered within the Liver Unit. We are a passionate team committed to ensuring our patients receive the highest standards of care. The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) is integral to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

The planning, implementation, and evaluation of all nursing care will be carried out to the highest standards, including maintaining clear and accurate patient records relevant to practice. To support this, we offer opportunities for development in specialist liver knowledge and the completion of bespoke liver nursing competencies.

We maintain exceptional nurse-to-patient ratios to ensure the highest level of care and expect that RNs will be empowered to maximise the quality of care they deliver.
