SEND Teaching Assistant
Make the difference - 1:1 Teaching Assistant (ADHD Specialist) | KS2 | Newham, East London
Our primary school in Newham is looking for a Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 2 pupil with ADHD on a 1:1 basis.
This is a role for someone who understands that behaviour is communication. Some days will be challenging. The pupil may find it hard to settle, focus or manage big feelings, and they'll need an adult who stays consistent, doesn't take things personally and knows when a break is exactly what's needed. You'll help them take that time, reset, and return to their learning feeling capable and supported.
Day to day, you will:
- stay alongside the pupil in class, keeping tasks manageable and using visual timetables, timers and clear routines
- spot early signs of dysregulation and offer movement or sensory breaks before things escalate
- respond to difficult moments calmly, following the pupil's support plan and our behaviour policy
- help them back into learning after a break, and celebrate their progress
- work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and family, and share what you notice
You'll bring:
- experience supporting children with ADHD, SEMH or other additional needs
- a calm, positive manner and real resilience
- good literacy and numeracy (GCSE English and Maths grade 4/C or equivalent)
- a commitment to safeguarding children
