About Us:
THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF 809 CONNECTED BUSINESSES
Digital and Innovation in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where creative and enterprising people put local residents and businesses first.
Today, Westminster is the most connected borough in London. But, when David joined us in the mid-2010s, small businesses were still struggling to get connected to fibre. Without gigabit-capable broadband, some companies even resorted to biking memory sticks around the city, simply to share files with clients.
Although still in a junior role, David took the initiative and successfully made the business case for £2.8 million of European funding to support connectivity for small businesses across Westminster. Feedback from businesses has been overwhelmingly positive as the project has enhanced their communications with clients. The new connectivity allows them to make video calls and work remotely. As the pandemic hit and many more people needed to work from home, it became clear just how vital this investment had been.
Fast-forward a few years. Westminster is leading the way for connectivity, as a result of the project businesses are thriving, and David is heading up a service of his own responsible for delivery of the Smart City strategy.
The Role:
As a Technical Support Engineer, you can make your own powerful contribution to Westminster’s success. In this hands-on role, you will provide responsive and effective 1st and 2nd line technical support to a wide and diverse user base, ensuring high standards of service delivery across the organisation. Working collaboratively with a skilled and supportive team, you’ll help manage user issues across multiple platforms, including Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365 applications, and Mac OS environments.

With strong experience in identity services, you’ll maintain and troubleshoot Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Entra, and Group Policy environments. You’ll also apply your knowledge of Microsoft Surface laptops and Mac devices to deliver efficient cross-platform support.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include performing diagnostic tests, coordinating with 2nd line support to resolve incidents, and carrying out basic hardware repair tasks such as equipment swaps and peripheral replacements. You’ll install, migrate, and optimise Microsoft Office systems within enterprise IT environments and deliver brief tutorials to users to help them get the most from digital services.
Supporting customer-specific products and systems following training, you’ll escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate teams and contribute to service improvement through consistent user engagement. With a clear focus on efficiency and service quality, you will play an important part in empowering over 3,500 users to deliver frontline services that make a real difference to the community.
