Our client is an established U.S. law firm with a comprehensive network of offices in major jurisdictions worldwide. They provide a full-service legal offering across all primary practice areas, supporting a diverse range of clients.

Position Overview

The firm’s Executive Committee has identified a strategic need within their TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecommunications) department to recruit a partner to lead the Telecommunications practice in their London office. This role arises from increasing client demand and the planned opening of a new office in a major Middle Eastern market, which will create additional opportunities for work.

Practice Area

The firm advises telecommunications companies and broadband data providers on:

• National and international regulatory compliance
• Rulemaking proceedings
• Enforcement actions
• Tech transactions
• Privacy matters
• Rights-of-way concerns
• Various other industry-specific legal and regulatory issues

The team supports a wide range of clients, from global telecommunications giants to innovative new entrants, and offers pioneering communications services. They act for mobile, fixed, and satellite communications entities, operators, service providers, and technology providers, along with leading names in the technology and media sectors.

Current Team Expertise

The team includes lawyers with extensive in-house and outside counsel experience, representing clients before key regulators like the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the UK's Office of Communications (Ofcom), and numerous European Telecommunications Regulatory bodies. They assist clients in developing regulatory compliance plans, drafting corporate policies, procedures, and consumer terms of service, and negotiating provider-to-provider agreements. They also have deep knowledge of essentiality declarations with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and their intellectual property rights policies.

Candidate Profile

Suitable candidates will:

• Be currently based in London with an international law firm.
• Have extensive experience in telecoms law, including commercial, corporate, and regulatory aspects.
• Have the ability to lead and build a new team in London.
• Possess a strong track record of advising telecommunications clients on complex legal and regulatory matters.
