Finance and Administration Officer – Independent School – Kingston upon Thames, London

Location: Kingston upon Thames, London

Start Date: As soon as possible

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

School Information

An established independent school in Kingston upon Thames is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Finance and Administration Officer to join its business support team. The school is committed to maintaining high operational standards and recognises that accurate financial administration is essential to the effective management of its resources.

The successful candidate will work closely with the School Business Manager and administrative colleagues, supporting financial transactions alongside general office procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in accounts or administration who is comfortable working with figures, maintaining accurate records and managing a varied workload.

The Role

The Finance and Administration Officer will support the day-to-day management of financial records and provide administrative assistance across the school's business operations.

Responsibilities will include processing invoices, checking purchase orders, maintaining expenditure records and assisting with supplier payments. The postholder will ensure that transactions are recorded accurately, supporting documentation is retained and any discrepancies are raised with the appropriate colleagues.

The successful candidate will assist with budget monitoring, account reconciliations and the preparation of routine financial reports. They will help maintain spreadsheets, track expenditure and support the School Business Manager with the collection of information needed for financial planning.

The administrative element of the position will involve responding to routine enquiries, maintaining filing systems, preparing correspondence and updating relevant records. The postholder may also assist with purchasing arrangements, supplier communications and the coordination of documentation relating to school services.

Confidentiality will be essential, particularly when handling financial records and sensitive school information. The successful applicant will follow established procedures, meet deadlines and ensure that information is stored securely.

The role may also involve providing occasional support to the wider office team, helping ensure that administrative tasks are completed efficiently during busy periods.

Requirements

Candidates should have previous experience in finance, accounts administration or a similar office-based role. Strong numerical skills, attention to detail and confidence using Microsoft Excel are essential.

Experience processing invoices, reconciling accounts and maintaining financial records would be advantageous. Applicants should be organised, reliable and able to manage competing deadlines without compromising accuracy.

The successful candidate must communicate professionally, handle confidential information appropriately and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience within a school or educational organisation would be beneficial.

What the School Offers

The school offers a varied position combining finance and general administration within a professional educational environment. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop their financial administration skills and contribute to the effective use of school resources.

Application

If you have a background in finance or administration and are looking for a role within education, please send your CV for consideration.
