The Fares Analyst reports to the Revenue Reporting Manager within the Commercial Revenue team, the Fares Analyst will play a crucial role in developing and managing the company's fares strategy. This position requires a blend of analytical expertise, commercial awareness, and an understanding of the regulated railway environment to ensure optimal pricing that balances commercial objectives with passenger needs and regulatory requirements. The Fares Analyst is a pivotal role within the Commercial team, central to the achievement of the company's financial targets. The core purpose is to strategically manage and optimise the entire fares portfolio to maximise revenue, profitability, and passenger growth. This involves leveraging sophisticated data analysis and modelling to understand complex demand patterns and predict market shifts. The analyst acts as a key driver of commercial success, ensuring that our pricing strategies are not only competitive and attractive to customers but also compliant with stringent industry regulations, ultimately contributing to the long-term sustainability and success of the rail service. Key Responsibilities: * Fares Strategy & Development: Working alongside others within the Revenue Reporting function, develop and implement innovative and competitive fares strategies to maximize revenue and passenger growth across various routes and services. * Data Analysis & Insights: Analyse large datasets related to passenger demand, market trends, and competitor pricing to identify opportunities for fare adjustments and new product development. * Performance Monitoring: Track and report on the performance of existing fares, promotions, and new initiatives using key performance indicators (KPIs), providing insights and recommendations for optimisation. * Regulatory Compliance: In collaboration with the retail function, ensure all fares comply with the rules and regulations set by regulatory bodies such as Transport Scotland (TS) or the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), and the National Rail Conditions of Travel. * Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the Commercial, Marketing, Planning, and Revenue Management teams to ensure integrated strategies and effective communication of fares information. * Promotions Management: Support the development, implementation, and analysis of tactical promotions and special offers to stimulate demand during off-peak periods or in response to specific market conditions. * Market Research: Conduct ongoing market and competitor analysis to ensure the company remains competitive and responsive to changes in the transport landscape. What you bring …. Essential: * Graduate in a numerate or business discipline. * Proven experience in data analysis, pricing, or revenue management, preferably within the transport, travel, or a similar data-intensive industry. * Familiarity with the UK railway fares structure and industry systems (e.g., LENNON, NFMIS) is highly desirable. * Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data manipulation and modelling. * Familiarity with revenue management software and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). * Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with an aptitude for working with complex data. * Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. * Commercial acumen and a strategic mindset. * Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels. * Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Desirable: * Experience with data analysis tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R is a significant advantage. * A good understanding of the markets for, and commercial operation of, transport services. * Experience working with BI solutions. This role works Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week, and is based in Atrium Court. Salary £40k per annum.
