Front End Developer (IT)

Job title: Front End Developer (Vue.js / React) Contract: 12 months Location: London - Hybrid Start Date: ASAP IR35: Inside IR35 Sector: Public Sector We are currently recruiting for an experienced Front End Developer to support a major Public Sector digital programme based in London. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop and improve accessible, user-centred digital services. The role requires strong frontend engineering experience, excellent knowledge of modern web-development standards and a particular focus on Vue.js and/or React, accessibility and collaborative Agile delivery. Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with designers, researchers, developers and other disciplines to develop designs and working prototypes based on user needs.
• Develop frontend software components that form part of wider digital products and services.
• Build modern, maintainable user interfaces using Vue.js and/or React.
• Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code that follows modern web standards.
• Build user interfaces in accordance with predefined design and development standards.
• Apply modern frontend-development standards and support other engineers in adopting them.
• Champion accessibility throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide design and technical feedback to reduce the risk of accessibility issues.
• Recommend appropriate tools and approaches for accessibility testing.
• Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and build strong working relationships.
• Coach, mentor and support junior developers.
• Participate in Agile delivery and help identify and address issues through team health checks and continuous improvement.
• Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Adapt communication and feedback depending on the audience and situation.
• Facilitate or moderate difficult technical or stakeholder discussions where required.
• Identify issues within team dynamics and work proactively with colleagues to resolve them.
• Understand the wider impact of technical and design decisions.
• Make informed decisions across different levels of risk and complexity.
• Help resolve technical disagreements between engineering teams and wider stakeholders.
• Contribute to frontend engineering strategy, standards, policies and ways of working.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience as a Front End Developer / Front End Engineer / Software Developer.
• Strong hands-on experience with Vue.js and/or React.
• Strong understanding of modern frontend-development principles and web standards.
• Experience developing reusable, maintainable frontend components.
• Strong knowledge of accessibility and accessible web development.
• Experience applying accessibility standards throughout design and development.
• Experience testing frontend applications and user interfaces.
• Strong understanding of user-centred design and developing services around user needs.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary Agile teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience working collaboratively with designers, researchers, developers and other technical disciplines.
• Ability to coach and mentor less experienced developers.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability.
• Experience contributing to technical standards and engineering best practice.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Previous experience delivering digital services within the Public Sector.
• Experience working on large-scale or high-profile digital transformation programmes.
• Experience supporting accessibility assessments and remediation.
• Experience contributing to frontend-development strategy, standards or engineering policies.
• Experience facilitating technical discussions across multiple teams and stakeholder groups.
