To provide inspirational teaching for the Deaf Children who attend the specialist Deaf Bases for HI, part of Bromley Sensory Support Service.

To support mainstream integration, liaising with outside agencies, including Speech and Language Therapists and working in partnership with parents and mainstream staff to achieve best outcomes for pupils.

Essential requirements:

* Trainee ToD considered

* Sign to BSL Level 1

* Would consider SEN Trained Teacher with interest in Deaf Education

*MUST have a good understanding of language development

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Post holder will provide:

Individual and group teaching as required in the Base/mainstream support.

Appropriate planning and evaluation for lessons taught in the Base.

Appropriate records of support provided in the mainstream class, including notes of meetings with the subject teacher.

Advice as part of an integrated, multi-agency team support Deaf and HI pupils in a mainstream school.

Advice, support and reports to families and other professionals involved.

Deaf Awareness INSET to school staff as required and disseminate PD training information to Team.

Advice and training on the use of specialist equipment including FM and sound field systems.

Regular monitoring and assessment of pupil progress.

Advice on the provision of suitable exam papers at all levels.

Advice for transition plans for work experience, careers and higher education.

Transition support and advice at key stages.

High level of liaison with Speech and Language Therapists.

Daily guidance and support for the TAs/Deaf Communicators.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Sound knowledge of the theoretical framework relating to children with hearing impairment and of current research in this area.

Knowledge of the range of technological aids for use by children with hearing needs.

Image Image A knowledge of up-to-date teaching methods for HI pupils.

Image Image Up to date knowledge of equipment required for the inclusion of HI pupils.

Image Image A knowledge of language modification.

Good knowledge of the EYFS to KS2 Curriculum.

Knowledge of Safeguarding Procedures.

Ability to communicate a range of teaching strategies suitable for HI pupils to Mainstream Teachers.

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of Professionals.

Good written and oral skills.

Image Good time management skills.

A clear understanding of current Special Educational Needs legislation and its relevance to the LA, schools, settings, parents, children and other professionals

EXPERIENCE

Teaching Deaf and Hearing Impaired children in a variety of settings (Preschool/Primary/Secondary) Working with parents

Working with HI and additional needs

Working as part of a multi-agency team

Delivering INSET

Record keeping and report writing

QUALIFICATIONS

1. A DfE recognised Teaching Qualification

2. A recognised Qualification as a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) (or willing to train)

Sign Language Qualification (BSL Level 2 preferred)
