Managing Quantity Surveyor
An established infrastructure organisation is looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead a sizeable commercial team and provide senior commercial management across a complex portfolio of projects and contracts.
The role combines commercial leadership, contract management, procurement, supplier management and team development , with responsibility for ensuring strong financial and contractual governance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage commercial activity across a portfolio of complex infrastructure projects, covering both pre- and post-contract stages.
- Ensure contractual compliance is maintained across the portfolio, with appropriate processes, controls and escalation mechanisms in place.
- Develop and advise on procurement and commercial strategies, balancing value, risk, delivery requirements and supply-chain resilience.
- Manage commercial relationships with key contractors and suppliers, including negotiation of contractual and commercial matters.
- Provide commercial advice throughout the life of contracts, including variations, claims, disputes and contractual obligations.
- Ensure value for money is maintained and demonstrable throughout the supplier and contract lifecycle.
- Oversee accurate payment certification, cost control, forecasting, budgeting and financial governance.
- Provide cost and market data to support estimating, business planning and future investment decisions.
- Produce commercial performance reporting and provide senior-level insight into risks, opportunities and financial performance.
- Lead, coach and develop a multi-level Quantity Surveying team, supporting professional development and progression towards chartership.
- Provide expert commercial input into governance processes, business cases and strategic decisions.
- Support the senior commercial leadership team with dispute resolution, commercial strategy and wider departmental initiatives.
- Act as a senior escalation point for commercial or contractual issues, ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken.
Experience Required
- Degree or Master's qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- Significant Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, construction or another complex project environment .
- Proven experience managing a substantial commercial team comprising Quantity Surveyors at different levels.
- Extensive experience commercially managing a portfolio of projects through both pre- and post-contract phases.
- Strong experience in contract management, procurement, supplier negotiation and commercial risk management.
- Ability to assess contractual risk, supply-chain resilience and commercial exposure and make sound recommendations.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to bring multiple internal and external stakeholders together.
- Experience managing budgets, forecasting, cost control and financial governance.
- Experience dealing with claims, disputes, variations and complex contractual issues.
- Demonstrable ability to develop people, improve team performance and support professional progression.
- Chartered status or strong working knowledge of relevant RICS principles and professional standards.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project or operational locations as required.

Experience within a regulated infrastructure environment, particularly where there is significant capital investment, complex supply chains and formal regulatory or governance requirements.
