Salary: £53,931 - £64,710 dependent on experience

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Blood Transfusion Practitioner to join our Professional Practice team. This is a key role, responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of blood and blood components across The London Clinic.

You will be an accountable professional, working at the interface between laboratory and clinical services, with responsibility for embedding safe transfusion practice, leading on governance and regulatory compliance, and supporting the professional development of staff across the organisation.

Key Duties:

• Developing and implementing transfusion-related policies, SOPs, and guidelines in line with regulatory standards.
• Providing expert advice and support to staff, patients, and the wider organisation on all aspects of blood transfusion.
• Designing, delivering, and evaluating specialist education and training programmes to promote safe practice.
• Leading on governance activity, audits, and MHRA inspections, ensuring full compliance with national standards and the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations.
• Supporting Hospital Transfusion Team and Committee activities, including strategies to minimise unnecessary use of blood.
• Establishing and developing the Transfusion Champion role, supporting clinical leadership at ward level.
• Leading and supporting research, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a registered nurse with:

• NMC registration and significant clinical experience in blood transfusion or acute care.
• Strong knowledge of transfusion policies, national guidance, and regulatory frameworks including SHOT, MHRA, and NICE.
• Excellent communication and teaching skills, with the ability to train, support, and influence multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in governance, audit, and service improvement.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead change effectively.
• Expertise in transfusion gained from working across different clinical environments including surgical wards, ITU, and medical wards, in either NHS or private hospital settings.
• A master's degree (or working towards one), leadership training, and experience of committee membership or accreditation processes would be an advantage.
