Data Scientist
Job description
Data Scientist – Time Series Forecasting
4 days per week in office London)
About the Company
This fast-scaling UK tech company is building one of the most innovative demand forecasting and workforce optimisation platforms in their space. With major clients across food, drink, and service sectors, their platform helps businesses stay perfectly staffed in an unpredictable world.
They have evolved from a fulfilment product into a broader intelligence platform, helping clients forecast footfall, optimise schedules, and make smarter staffing decisions in real time. Their team operates with the agility of a startup and the product depth of a scale-up, working from a collaborative Central London HQ four days a week.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Build and refine forecasting models that help predict demand, footfall, and staffing requirements at the hourly and site level
- Apply time series modelling techniques to real-world datasets with seasonality, irregularity, and external dependencies
- Collaborate with backend engineers to embed models into production systems and influence how predictions are used operationally
- Develop scalable, robust pipelines that support both real-time and batch inference workflows
- Work closely with product and client teams to shape requirements and ensure forecasting solutions align with business goals
- Help build internal tooling, dashboards, and diagnostic frameworks for evaluating model performance and business impact
- Support efforts to explore new modelling techniques and improve long-term model stability and accuracy
What They’re Looking For
- Demonstrated experience in time series forecasting, ideally in retail demand, workforce planning, or operational intelligence
- Strong Python skills and familiarity with relevant ML libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, Prophet, or PyTorch
- Solid understanding of statistical modelling, signal decomposition, and evaluation metrics for time series
- Experience designing experiments, handling noisy datasets, and improving long-term model robustness
- Practical knowledge of cloud services (especially AWS) and how to integrate ML solutions into scalable infrastructure
- A proactive mindset and strong communication skills to work effectively across data, engineering, and commercial teams
- Bonus: exposure to footfall prediction, workforce scheduling, or similar operational use cases
- Bonus: experience contributing to backend systems using Go, Django, or similar tools
What’s On Offer
- Competitive salary between £50,000 and £90,000 based on experience
- Equity options in a high-growth business
- Private healthcare and gym access
- Dog-friendly office with a collaborative and close-knit team culture
- Full ownership over your work with real business visibility
