Senior Surveyor - Measured Surveys - Team Lead into Service Line Lead
Job Description
A rare opportunity to build and lead a brand new Measured Survey service line. An established and highly specialist surveying consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Surveyor to establish and lead a new Measured Survey function within its London operation. This is a genuine opportunity to build something from the ground up. There is a small existing team and limited infrastructure to inherit, giving the successful candidate significant autonomy to shape the service, establish its technical standards, select the right technology and ultimately build a team around them. The consultancy has an established reputation across Building Surveying and Neighbourly Matters. The new Measured Survey service will initially support these existing areas before developing into a standalone offering for building owners, asset managers and other property clients. The Role As the first senior hire into the service line, you will have a key role in determining how the function develops. Initially, you will remain hands on, personally undertaking measured building and topographical surveys while establishing the processes, technology and standards required to deliver a high quality service. You will then have the opportunity to grow and lead a specialist team, with full support and investment from the ownership. The role will combine technical surveying, business development, client management and team leadership, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to progress beyond simply delivering surveys and take genuine ownership of a service line. Key responsibilities Establish and develop the Measured Survey service line. Specify, procure and implement appropriate survey equipment, including laser scanning, total station and GNSS technology where appropriate. Select and implement suitable processing, CAD and BIM software. Establish surveying methodologies, accuracy standards and quality control procedures in line with relevant RICS professional standards. Personally undertake measured building and topographical surveys during the initial growth phase. Produce and oversee point cloud, CAD and BIM deliverables. Develop repeatable processes, templates and QA procedures for future team members. Train and mentor staff joining the new function. Work closely with existing Rights of Light, Daylight & Sunlight, Party Wall and Boundary teams. Assist with scoping instructions and preparing fee proposals. Help develop the commercial strategy for the continued growth of the service. Recruit and build a specialist Measured Survey team as the workload develops. About You We're looking for an experienced measured surveyor who combines strong technical expertise with the ambition to build and lead something of their own. You'll ideally have: 5+ years' experience in measured building or land surveying. Strong practical experience with survey capture equipment. Experience producing point cloud, CAD and/or BIM deliverables. Good working knowledge of RICS measured survey standards and accuracy banding. The confidence to work autonomously and establish processes from scratch. Strong client-facing and communication skills. A full UK driving licence. Previous experience of setting up or developing a surveying function or small team would be advantageous. RICS chartership is desirable rather than essential — practical technical experience and the ability to establish and grow the service are the key priorities for this appointment. Why consider it? This is much more than a traditional Senior Surveyor position. You'll have the opportunity to: ? Build a new service line from scratch ? Choose the equipment and technology you'll work with ? Establish the technical standards and processes ? Work with an existing client base and pipeline of instructions ? Have direct access to and support from the ownership ? Develop and lead your own specialist team ? Work alongside established specialist surveying disciplines ? Ultimately develop the function into a standalone business line For the right person, this could be a significant career opportunity — the chance to build a Measured Survey business rather than simply join one. Location London-based, with a combination of site-based surveying, client meetings and office time for processing, planning and coordination. Salary: Up to £65k DOE + Bonus + Benefits To apply, simply click the link and submit your CV. If this role isn't quite the right fit but you'd like to have an initial, informal conversation about your next move or even just how the market is, feel free to give me a call on 07511 759123. You can also connect with me on LI – Rory Thompson. I'm currently working on a range of opportunities across the property and construction consultancy space, so even if this role isn't the one, there may be others that align more closely with what you're looking for.
