Senior UX Designer
Oritain is the global leader in product verification, with locations in Auckland, Dunedin, London, Singapore and Washington D.C.
Our Mission: Protecting the Planet through User-Centred Design
Our mission is to protect people and the planet by harnessing science, technology and services to build a community of origin verified suppliers and buyers.
As a Senior UX Designer , you will be responsible for ensuring our technology platform is not only functional but truly empowering and intuitive for our global users. Your mission is to take complex scientific and supply chain verification data and transform it into seamless, trustworthy, and actionable digital experiences.
We are seeking a full stack UX leader who combines design vision with the ability to prototype, experiment, and deliver. You’ll leverage modern tools to turn concepts into reality, ensuring every solution is validated and impactful.
The Opportunity: Ownership, Impact, and Insight
Reporting directly to the Product Director, you will be the single voice of UX within the organisation, working collaboratively with Product Managers, the Head of Software Engineering, and the entire engineering team. This is a highly autonomous role where you will define the design strategy and standards for all user-facing experiences. You’ll shape a digital environment enables clients to understand the status of their programs, extract meaningful insights, and act with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Design Leadership
Play a key role in shaping and evolving UX strategy across interconnected products and services, working closely with product and engineering leadership to ensure alignment with business objectives.
Help define enterprise-level experiences that span multiple platforms, workflows, and client-facing systems, contributing systems thinking and a holistic perspective.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of design standards and governance frameworks, championing consistency, accessibility, and quality across the product ecosystem.
Drive adoption of scalable design systems and unified information architecture, supporting complex data flows and multi-platform user journeys in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Influence product and engineering decisions through UX advocacy, ensuring design excellence is considered in both strategic planning and day-to-day delivery.
User Research and Strategy
Own the Research Function: Plan, conduct, and synthesise qualitative and quantitative user research, including interviews, usability testing, surveys, and competitive analysis, to deeply understand user goals, pain points, and mental models across the supply chain.
Insights to Action: Translate research insights into clear, prioritised UX recommendations and design strategies that align with both business goals and technical feasibility. Champion user understanding within the product discipline and help shape roadmap priorities.
Stakeholder Alignment: Effectively communicate the rationale behind design decisions and UX strategy to product leadership and the wider engineering team.
User Experience (UX) Design
Design Lifecycle: Lead the design process from concept through delivery, utilising tools such as sketching, wireframing, user flows, service blueprints, and information architecture mapping. Apply systems thinking to design scalable experiences across complex ecosystems.
AI-Driven Prototyping & Rapid Iteration: Leverage AI-powered prototyping tools and natural language workflows to accelerate the design process, enabling rapid exploration, validation, and refinement of user experiences.
Complex Data Communication: Develop innovative and clear solutions for visualising and communicating complex data (e.g., scientific verification results, supply chain mapping) in ways that are meaningful, contextual, and actionable for our professional users.
Accessibility: Ensure all designs adhere to modern accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices for usability and performance.
System Thinking: Architect intuitive, traceable, and scalable data flows across diverse user journeys. Design with purpose, ensuring every interaction reflects our commitment to integrity, transparency, and service reliability.
Feedback and Collaboration : Embrace feedback and iteration as tools for continuous improvement. Share credit for team successes and design outcomes, recognising the contributions of others.
User Interface (UI) Design
Design System Ownership: Own, maintain, and evolve our corporate Design System, ensuring consistency, high quality, and efficiency across all digital products.
High-Fidelity Prototyping: Deliver polished, production-ready design specifications, including component libraries, visual assets, and detailed interaction models.
Modern Platform Proficiency: Utilise platforms such as Lovable, V0, and Cursor, alongside traditional design tools, to generate prototypes and support design-to-code workflows. Ensure that design intent is clearly communicated and efficiently translated into robust digital products.
Developer Partnership: Work embedded within the engineering squads (React/Angular) to support implementation, review front-end builds for design accuracy, and find pragmatic solutions to technical challenges. Collaborate closely on system architecture, data flows, and API structures to ensure design feasibility and coherence.
Quality Ownership: Champion usability, accessibility, and design quality across the product lifecycle.
What You'll Bring
Required Experience
Senior UX Leadership: Proven experience (typically 5+ years) as a full-stack UX Designer (or similar title) with a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in user research, interaction design, and visual design.
B2B/Enterprise Experience: Demonstrated ability to design sophisticated systems, dashboards, or applications that manage large datasets and complex workflows, ideally in a B2B, scientific, or supply chain environment.
Design Tool Proficiency: Expert proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, AI-powered app builders), including component libraries and design system tooling.
Research Execution: A strong track record of designing, moderating, and analysing user research studies that directly informed product development.
Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate complex design concepts and decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Technical Awareness: Working understanding of front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React/Angular) and APIs — sufficient to collaborate effectively with engineers on implementation trade-offs and system constraints.
