Senior Counsel, Privacy & AI
- Advise on global privacy and AI compliance matters, with a strong focus on UK and EU laws (e.g., UK GDPR, EU GDPR, DSA, AI Act)
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, HR, Security, and other teams to apply regulatory requirements to real-world practices and emerging technologies
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on a variety of vendor, customer, and technology contracts
- Lead the execution of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), privacy impact assessments (PIAs), and other rights-based compliance activities
- Develop and maintain internal privacy governance frameworks, policies, records of processing (ROPA), and other compliance documentation
- Monitor evolving global regulations related to data, privacy, and AI—and translate them into clear, practical internal guidance
- Partner with cross-functional teams to create and deliver privacy education, policies, and tools to foster a culture of responsible innovation
- Manage internal privacy and AI governance tools and automated systems
- Serve as a key contributor to BetterUp’s broader data governance and risk management efforts
- Qualified in the UK with 6+ years PQE, ideally with significant in-house legal experience in a technology or SaaS environment
- Deep expertise in UK and EU privacy and AI frameworks (including the GDPR and EU AI Act), and working knowledge of global privacy laws and AI governance trends
- Proven ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them in practical, business-focused ways
- Experience building or enhancing privacy compliance programs in fast-moving startup environment
- IAPP certifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM) are strongly preferred
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills—able to influence, educate, and align stakeholders across functions
