Economics Teacher | High-Performing School in Newham
Teacher of Economics & Global Markets (January 2027 Start)
Location: Newham, East/Inner London
School Type: Secondary School & Sixth Form (Co-educational)
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent or Fixed-Term
Start Date: January 2027 (Winter Term Start)
An ambitious, forward-thinking secondary school and Sixth Form in the London Borough of Newham is seeking an articulate, analytical, and dynamic Teacher of Economics to join their prestigious Social Sciences & Business faculty this January . Situated right on the doorstep of London’s major commercial hubs at Canary Wharf and the City, this mid-year appointment offers an outstanding opportunity for an Economics specialist, whether an experienced practitioner eager to lead A-Level Macro and Microeconomics or an ambitious Early Career Teacher (ECT), to cultivate quantitative analysis, market literacy, and global economic awareness across a high-aspiring student body.
About the Role
Stepping into the faculty for the January term, you will demystify central bank monetary policies, global trade dynamics, market failures, and behavioral economics for ambitious young adult learners. Joining a highly collaborative, data-literate department, you will deliver compelling, high-rigor lessons across Key Stage 4 (GCSE Economics / Business) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Economics / Level 3 Applied Economics), sharpening students' evaluative writing and quantitative reasoning as they head toward spring assessments and summer examinations.
Environment: A modern Inner London secondary campus featuring digital finance labs, live market news display terminals, interactive presentation suites, and established links to corporate finance networks and university economics departments
Culture: A high-standard, intellectually vibrant academic setting focused on active debate, real-world case studies, data interpretation, and driving top-tier Sixth Form university progression outcomes
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver academically rigorous, engaging Economics lessons across Key Stages 4 and 5 covering microeconomic theory, macroeconomic management, international development, and quantitative economic methods.
Prepare GCSE and A-Level candidates thoroughly for upcoming national written examination papers through explicit modeling of 25-mark evaluation essays, data response questions, and economic calculations.
Integrate real-world fiscal developments (e.g., inflation policy, exchange rate shifts, global supply chain shocks) into daily classroom learning to spark critical debate.
Monitor, track, and evaluate student progress systematically, executing targeted interventions to stretch ambitious economists targeting Russell Group/Oxbridge destinations while scaffolding complex models for developing learners.
Contribute actively to departmental enrichment, including the Student Economics Society, Young Enterprise initiatives, mock trading competitions, and guest speaker lectures.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.
A strong academic degree in Economics, Finance, Econometrics, Business Economics, or a closely related quantitative social science.
Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding Economics instruction across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Economics teaching experience is essential).
In-depth knowledge of national Economics examination board specifications (e.g., Edexcel, AQA, OCR) and quantitative data handling methods.
Exceptional classroom presence, strong analytical communication skills, and an infectious enthusiasm for economic debate and policy analysis.
Salary & Benefits
Pay Scale: Inner London Main / Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS Inner London, commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for Key Stage 5 Economics Lead, Social Sciences Coordinator, or Enterprise Lead.
Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), structured middle leadership mentoring, and access to staff health and wellbeing schemes.
How to Apply
