French-Speaking Underwriter

Location: Central London (Hybrid - 2 days in office)

Salary: £60,000-£70,000 + ~15% bonus

About the Role

Robert Half are seeking a fluent French-speaking Underwriter to join a leading insurance firm. This role focuses on assessing the financial stability of businesses, underwriting financial guarantee products, and managing a portfolio of French clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the creditworthiness of prospective clients using financial statements, bank data, and references
  • Prepare detailed risk assessments and recommendations
  • Set pricing, terms, and conditions for coverage
  • Review bonds, policies, and membership documents
  • Manage a portfolio of French clients with annual renewals
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Conduct periodic client reviews via calls and occasional on-site visits (2-3 trips to France per year)
  • Monitor client risk and performance throughout the policy lifecycle
  • Oversee junior team members supporting underwriting and monitoring activities
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant
  • Provide expert guidance to clients and intermediaries throughout the application and renewal process
  • Handle queries professionally and efficiently
  • Liaise with brokers and internal teams to ensure a smooth customer journey

What We're Looking For

  • Fluent in French and English
  • Minimum 2 years of underwriting experience or similar financial risk role
  • Or newly qualified auditor from practice.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Confident reviewing financial documents and making risk-based assessments
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
