Junior ESG Analyst
1. ESG Data Collection & Analysis
- Gather and analyse ESG-related data from company reports, third-party sources, and regulatory filings.
- Assess environmental impact (carbon footprint, water use, waste management).
- Evaluate social factors (labour practices, diversity, human rights).
- Review governance structures (board diversity, executive pay, ethics policies). Sustainability Research & Reporting
- Conduct research on ESG trends, policies, and industry best practices.
- Prepare ESG reports, presentations, and scorecards for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in writing sustainability disclosures (e.g., TCFD, GRI, SASB, CSRD). ESG Risk Assessment
- Support risk analysis related to ESG factors, such as climate risks or supply chain issues.
- Help evaluate companies' ESG risks for investment purposes (if working in finance). Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance
- Assist in engagement with companies, investors, or regulators on ESG matters.
- Support compliance with ESG regulations and frameworks (e.g., SFDR, EU Taxonomy). ESG Ratings & Benchmarking
- Compare ESG performance of companies against peers.
- Work with ESG rating agencies (MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS) to improve scores., Relevance: ESG roles require collecting, analysing, and interpreting data from sustainability reports, company disclosures, and regulatory filings. Example: If you've worked with large datasets, financial modelling, or performance tracking, those analytical skills are valuable for ESG reporting. 2. Risk Assessment & Compliance From: Finance, Auditing, Legal, Health & Safety, Supply Chain Management Relevance: ESG analysis involves identifying risks related to climate change, governance issues, and social responsibility, similar to compliance and risk management roles. Example: If you've worked in financial risk assessment, compliance audits, or due diligence, you can apply those skills to ESG risk evaluations. 3. Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) From: Environmental Science, HR (Diversity & Inclusion), Procurement, Operations Relevance: Knowledge of sustainability, corporate responsibility programs, or ethical sourcing aligns well with ESG analysis. Example: If you've worked on corporate sustainability initiatives, supplier sustainability assessments, or DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) programs, those are directly relevant. 4. Report Writing & Communication From: Journalism, Marketing, Consulting, Public Policy, Law Relevance: ESG Analysts create reports, presentations, and disclosures for stakeholders. Clear and structured communication is key. Example: If you have experience writing research reports, policy briefs, or investor presentations, those skills translate well. 5. Financial & Investment Knowledge From: Banking, Accounting, Corporate Finance, Investment Analysis Relevance: ESG is deeply integrated into finance, especially in sustainable investing and impact assessments. Example: If you have financial modelling experience or have worked on investment research, those skills help with ESG integration into investment decisions. 6. Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement From: Consulting, Government, Non-profits, Sales, Operations Relevance: ESG analysts collaborate across teams, investors, and regulatory bodies, requiring project coordination and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong analytical and research skills
