Role overview
Investec is seeking a dedicated and experienced Restructuring Specialist to join our Restructuring & Recoveries team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing distressed and legacy exposures across the Bank, leading restructuring transactions to achieve optimal outcomes. This position is central to our strategy of supporting clients through challenging situations while aligning with our commitment to integrity and fairness.
Team description
The Restructuring Team is tasked with leading and supporting strategy, renegotiation, and restructuring deal execution for Stage 2 and Stage 3, as well as Legacy exposures. We bring expertise to both solvent and insolvent situations where Borrowers are underperforming, negotiating amendments, additional credit support, or other solutions as necessary. Additionally, we oversee the wind-down of Legacy books, including Marine, Australia, and Global Resources. The Recoveries Team shares a similar role for property-related and fixed asset exposures across the Bank.
Key responsibilities
- Lead client-facing restructuring transactions to drive best-in-class outcomes for Stage 2, Stage 3, and Legacy exposures within IBP and subsidiaries.
- Manage Legacy exposures, ensuring effective risk management, accurate reporting, and strong stakeholder engagement with Risk, Finance, Auditors, and Origination Teams.
- Conduct regular reviews of each originating desk's portfolio to assess material risk changes.
- Assist deal teams with distressed positions, restructurings, or portfolio disposals as required.
- Collaborate with desks to manage and forecast impairments, working closely with the credit function.
- Represent Restructuring & Recoveries in the Bank's Watchlist process and IDC, supporting IBP's distressed asset management policy.
- Contribute to the management and evolution of the Bank's distressed asset management procedures, driving best practices across origination teams and risk.
- Engage with the Bank's auditors and regulators regarding distressed asset management procedures and individual exposures.
- Support the development and effectiveness of the Restructuring & Recoveries team by sharing best practices and fostering a high-performance culture.
Core skills ad knowledge
- A commitment to integrity and the philosophy of treating customers fairly.
- In-depth knowledge of restructuring and insolvency processes.
- Extensive experience in multi-party restructuring negotiations across various jurisdictions and asset classes.
- Strong understanding of the European and UK lending market, including approaches of other market participants to restructuring.
- Advanced negotiation skills and credit analysis expertise.
- Familiarity with Investec's internal processes.

- A robust network of relationships with individuals and institutions within the restructuring and insolvency market.
- Experience in a relevant financing and/or advisory team within a bank, fund, sponsor, or advisory firm.
