Social Communications Officer
Location: Central London, hybrid (1 day per week on site, with flexibility for more)
Contract: Temporary, 3 months
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £18.63 per hour (+ £2.25 holiday pay) (circa £36,400 salaried equivalent)

Prospectus is delighted to be partnering with a leading international humanitarian organisation to recruit a temporary Social Communications Officer.
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the world's leading humanitarian organisations and help bring vital stories, campaigns and advocacy work to audiences across a range of social media platforms. Based within the Digital Team, you'll play a key role in delivering engaging organic social media content that raises awareness of humanitarian crises, supports fundraising initiatives and amplifies the impact of the organisation's work around the world.
The successful candidate will have strong social media expertise, excellent writing skills and a passion for creating compelling content that resonates with audiences. You'll work closely with colleagues across Communications, Fundraising and Digital teams to identify opportunities, develop content and ensure the organisation's social channels remain engaging, relevant and impactful.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the delivery of organic social media content across Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok and other digital channels.
- Creating engaging and accessible copy for social media posts, graphics and campaigns, ensuring content is accurate, audience-focused and optimised for each platform.
- Reviewing communications materials and identifying opportunities to create social-first content that supports fundraising, advocacy and communications objectives.
- Capturing photo and video content at the London office and local events for use across social media channels.
- Creating engaging social media graphics, carousels and assets using Canva and established brand guidelines.
- Working closely with the Multimedia Producer to develop and deliver engaging video content and social media campaigns.
- Scheduling and publishing content through social media management platforms, ensuring appropriate accessibility and platform-specific optimisation.
- Collaborating with a wide range of internal stakeholders to coordinate content plans and support organisational objectives.
Key Requirements:
- Excellent written and spoken English, with exceptional attention to detail and strong editing and proofreading skills.
- Experience managing or supporting social media activity for a charity, not-for-profit organisation, agency or commercial brand.
- Strong understanding of Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok, including platform best practice and audience engagement techniques.
- Experience creating social media content, including copy, graphics and short-form video concepts.
- Proficiency with Canva or similar design tools for developing digital content and visual assets.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders.
- Experience working with sensitive subject matter and adapting content appropriately for different audiences.
- Knowledge of social media analytics and management platforms such as Sprout Social.
- Understanding of humanitarian issues, world affairs or international development.
- Experience coordinating projects and managing content workflows across multiple stakeholders.
- Good news sense and strong judgement when communicating complex or sensitive topics.
