People and Culture Advisor

The role

We are looking for an HR Advisor to provide trusted, practical HR and recruitment support to managers and employees across VSI. This is a varied generalist role covering the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through performance, development, payroll and benefits to offboarding.

You will advise on day-to-day people matters, support straightforward employee relations and organisational change activity, and help create a consistent, positive employee experience. You will also contribute to the continued improvement of our HR systems, policies, reporting and processes.

What you will do

• Support the full recruitment cycle, including defining vacancies, drafting job descriptions, advertising, interviewing, preparing offers and maintaining clear communication with candidates.

• Coordinate consistent onboarding and induction processes and provide managers with guidance on effective, fair interview and selection practices.

• Provide clear, practical advice on HR policies and procedures, escalating complex matters when appropriate and supporting the Global Head of People and Culture with policy development and review.

• Advise managers and employees on performance management and development, support regular review cycles, and produce relevant reports and analysis.

• Provide guidance on straightforward employee relations matters and support less complex organisational change activity, ensuring effective communication and appropriate process.

• Manage the day-to-day operation and accuracy of the HR information system and help design and implement system and process improvements.

• Work with managers to identify learning needs, source suitable training, maintain accurate records and deliver inductions or HR related training to individuals and groups.

• Coordinate employee engagement activities, surveys and follow-up actions, and partner with Marketing on employee communications and employer branding initiatives.

• Act as the first point of contact for straightforward employee benefits queries and explain the terms and use of available benefits.

• Oversee HR administration and workflows, supporting the HR Administrator and ensuring records, metrics and people reports are accurate, confidential and managed in line with data protection requirements.

• Provide guidance on straightforward employment law, immigration and visa matters, including administration of the Sponsorship Management System and support with Skilled Worker visa processes.

• Run the UK payroll accurately and on time, resolving issues and identifying opportunities to improve the process.

What we are looking for

• At least two to three years of broad HR experience, with the confidence to advise managers and employees on day-to-day people matters.

• Clear and effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to adapt your style to different audiences and escalate concerns promptly.

• Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines.

• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to suggest practical improvements.

• Sound judgement, discretion and a strong commitment to confidentiality and accurate record-keeping.

• A collaborative and supportive approach, with the willingness to help colleagues when priorities change.

• Adaptability and a positive response to change and new ways of working.

• A strong sense of ownership, accountability and professional integrity.

• A genuine interest in people and delivering a positive employee experience.
