Site Manager | Collaborative & Supportive Academy |...
CORE PURPOSE
We require a highly competent, proactive Site Manager to lead the operational management, estate maintenance, and statutory health and safety compliance across our school campus. Operating within a supportive environment, the successful candidate will oversee the site team, manage contractor relationships, direct planned preventative maintenance, and ensure a secure, clean, and fully safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
THE SCHOOL
An 11–16 secondary school located in the London Borough of Redbridge, East London. The school operates with a centralized behaviour system managed by the senior leadership team to maintain a quiet, structured, and respectful environment across the entire campus. The estates and operations department functions as a cohesive, well-integrated unit with dedicated digital ticketing and compliance tools to keep workloads organized and manageable. Clear operational protocols are established to ensure daily maintenance, site security, and contractor operations run smoothly during standard working hours.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Estate Leadership & Operations: Line-manage site and caretaking staff, managing shift rotas, task delegation, and daily operational priorities across the school grounds and infrastructure.
Health & Safety Compliance: Manage and maintain statutory compliance records, including fire safety systems, legionella controls, asbestos management, gas/electrical safety, and risk assessments.
Project & Contractor Management: Oversee external contractors and capital improvement projects, ensuring work is completed to specification, on schedule, and in full alignment with safeguarding protocols.
Planned & Reactive Maintenance: Develop and execute a comprehensive Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule while overseeing prompt, high-quality responses to daily facilities tickets.
Budgeting & Facilities Management: Manage the premises budget in conjunction with the school business manager, obtaining competitive quotes for facilities goods and services, and overseeing out-of-hours community lettings setup.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: A recognized health and safety qualification (such as IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH Certificate) alongside relevant trade background or facilities management certification is highly desirable.
Experience: Proven experience in facilities management, estate supervision, or site management, ideally within an educational setting, local authority, or complex public sector environment.
Skills: Strong leadership abilities, thorough working knowledge of statutory health and safety legislation, practical problem-solving skills, and proficiency in digital facilities management software.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
Local Area & Community: Based in the thriving East London borough of Redbridge, the school serves an ambitious and diverse local community. The area offers a combination of bustling suburban high streets, vibrant residential neighbourhoods, and expansive green spaces such as Fairlop Waters Country Park and Valentines Park, supported by engaged local families.
Transport & Commuting: The school benefits from excellent regional transport connections, situated with rapid road access via the A12 (Eastern Avenue), A406 (North Circular), and M11 corridor. Public transit options are extensive, with comprehensive local bus networks and direct Central Line Underground services alongside Elizabeth line connections via stations such as Ilford, Seven Kings, and Redbridge, offering fast routes into Central London and Essex.
