Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo)
Are you an exceptional leader ready to define and champion every student’s success?
Prendergast Ladywell School is seeking an inspirational and strategic Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to take central responsibility for the leadership, management, and development of our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision.
This is a powerful opportunity to influence whole-school improvement, ensuring all our students—regardless of need—have full and equitable access to our curriculum, high-quality teaching, and resources. We value the SENCo's strategic impact, which is why this role is seen as a key pathway towards future senior leadership.
What We Offer
- Strategic Focus and Reduced Teaching Load : This highly-valued role includes a teaching commitment of only 6 hours of study support per week, enabling you to dedicate the majority of your time to strategic development, compliance, and departmental leadership.
- A Strategic Leadership Role : You will be responsible to the Assistant Headteacher (Access and Inclusion), occupying a leading role in whole-school planning for SEND, ensuring robust compliance with the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
- Effective Team Management : You will line-manage and lead our dedicated team of SEN teaching staff, Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), and the Assistant SENCo, providing professional development and securing high-quality support across the department.
A Commitment to Student Voice: You will act as a true champion for our students, fostering co-production with parents/carers and ensuring that those with SEND have a strong voice in decisions concerning their learning and achievement.
Your Impact
You will be expected to drive performance through:
- Strategic Vision : Developing clear short, medium, and long-term plans for the SEND provision based on effective data analysis.
- Quality Assurance : Overseeing the robust implementation of the Graduated Approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review) and leading on quality assurance across the school to promote outstanding inclusive teaching practice.
- Compliance Expertise : Managing the statutory annual review process for EHCPs and ensuring all legislative requirements are fully and effectively met.
- Whole-School Collaboration : Providing expert advice and leading high-quality CPD for all colleagues on differentiation and effective inclusive teaching strategies.
Who We Are Looking For
You are a qualified teacher with the National Award for SEN Coordination (or working towards it). Crucially, you possess:
- A sound, up-to-date knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
- Significant experience in successfully teaching students across the secondary age range.
- Proven ability to manage staff, liaise with external agencies, and use data to inform intervention planning.
- The resilience, empathy, and strategic approach necessary to manage complex provision while maintaining a steadfast commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of vulnerable students.
How to Apply:
If you are an organised, influential, and deeply empathetic leader and educator who wants to leverage this high-impact, strategic role as a route to senior leadership, we strongly encourage you to apply.
