Your Role: We are looking for a sharp, unflappable Night News Editor to lead our evening digital operation - able to work across platforms, liaising with print, digital and SunClub teams to ensure 360 publishing. You will manage a dynamic team of reporters to deliver high-octane breaking news, viral trends, and world-class exclusives while the rest of the country sleeps. Day to day you will: Command the Night: Lead the digital news operation, ensuring the site remains reactive, fast, and accurate through the late-shift cycle, while communicating with the print team. Story Development: Pick up the baton from the day desk, evolving ongoing stories and finding fresh angles for the morning audience. Deployment: Take full responsibility for "sending out" on stories—deploying reporters and resources effectively to where the action is. Mentorship: Nurture and coach reporters, providing the feedback and direction they need to land front-page-worthy scoops. Strategic Sync: Communicate seamlessly with the backbench and social teams to ensure our best stories are distributed for maximum impact. What we’re looking for from you: Team player: Experience in running a team of reporters and ideally experience working on a night desk in a national operation (minimum four years experience) Experienced journalist: Experience in courts reporting internationally, as well as experience on both foreign and UK desks National Experience: A proven track record in a fast-paced national newsroom. News Instinct: An expert knack for spotting the "Sun" angle in a sea of information. Pressure Cooker Pro: The ability to make split-second editorial and legal decisions under pressure. Legal Literacy: Solid knowledge of IPSO and media law to ensure our coverage stays bold but protected. Collaboration: A positive, "can-do" attitude with the ability to bridge the gap between editorial and social desks. News UK is one of the leading media businesses in the UK and Ireland. Our newsbrands include The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun, The Sun on Sunday and The TLS.
