Health & Safety Manager

Arriva London - UK Bus - Covering East & South
Salary: £63,000 per annum

Arriva London is looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to join our team, supporting our East and South London Business Unit.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate health and safety professional to play a key role in ensuring our operations remain safe, compliant and forward-thinking. You will work closely with senior leaders, depot management teams and operational colleagues to embed a strong safety culture across multiple sites, helping us continuously improve how we manage risk and protect our people.

If you thrive in a fast-paced, operational environment and enjoy influencing people, improving systems and making a visible difference across a large organisation, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As Health & Safety Manager, you will help embed the UK Bus Health & Safety Management System across Arriva London’s East and South London garages and operational sites, ensuring managers and employees clearly understand their responsibilities and that we meet all legal and regulatory obligations.

You will provide expert advice, guidance and support to managers, helping them identify and mitigate risks while promoting best practice in health, safety and environmental management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert health & safety advice and guidance to managers across the East and South London business unit

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety management plans for each garage and operational site

  • Conduct site visits, workplace inspections and safety audits across Arriva London premises

  • Monitor and interpret health & safety legislation, translating requirements into practical guidance for the business

  • Lead and support accident investigations, root cause analysis and panel reviews, including RIDDOR reporting where required

  • Oversee statutory compliance across garages and premises, working closely with Facilities Management and London Property teams

  • Prepare monthly and annual H&S performance reports for the Senior Management Team, identifying trends, risks and improvement actions

  • Coordinate and monitor health & safety training programmes, ensuring records remain accurate and up to date

  • Ensure health & safety inductions are delivered effectively for all new starters

  • Chair garage health, safety and environmental meetings

  • Maintain and update health & safety communications, including safety alerts and intranet content

  • Provide ongoing support to ensure Arriva London maintains the highest standards of safety and compliance

About You

We are looking for someone who is confident, influential and highly organised, with the ability to operate effectively across a large, multi-site operational environment.

You will have:

  • A proven track record in health & safety leadership within a complex, high-risk, multi-site environment

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) and ideally working towards NVQ Level 6

  • Membership of IOSH, ideally Chartered or working towards it

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage senior leaders and operational teams

  • The ability to drive improvements and implement new processes that deliver measurable business impact

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently

  • Solid IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook)

Our Values

At Arriva London we are committed to creating a workplace where people feel safe, respected and able to perform at their best.

You will also play an important role in supporting:

  • Health & Safety leadership across our garage environments

  • Diversity and inclusion, acting as an ambassador for our company values

  • Corporate Social Responsibility, ensuring our operations reflect the reputation and standards of Arriva London

Why Join Arriva?

  • Competitive salary of £63,000

  • Opportunity to work across a major London transport operation

  • A role with real influence and visibility across the business

  • The chance to shape safety culture and drive meaningful improvements across multiple operational sites

If you are an experienced health and safety professional looking to take the next step in a high-impact role within one of London’s largest transport operators, we would love to hear from you.
