IT & Security Administrator

Team: IT

Key role details

  • Location: London

  • Contract type: Permanent

  • Career level or required experience: Practical experience in IT support, systems administration or information security

  • Language requirements: To be confirmed

The role

As an IT & Security Administrator, you will help keep VSI’s day-to-day technology services reliable, secure and well organised. Combining hands-on IT administration with security and compliance coordination, you will support colleagues across the business, maintain accurate records and help ensure established IT and security processes run smoothly.

You will work closely with the Global Director of IT & Infrastructure, the Service Desk and Desktop Manager, infrastructure and network teams, Legal, Data Protection, People and operational teams. You will also collaborate with suppliers and managed security providers, helping to coordinate activity, support security initiatives and escalate technical or security-related issues where needed.

What you will do

  • Administer user accounts, groups, permissions and licences across Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory and approved business applications.

  • Provide first- and second-line support for devices, operating systems, Microsoft 365 applications, printing, meeting-room technology and standard business applications.

  • Record, prioritise and progress incidents and service requests in line with agreed service levels.

  • Prepare, configure, deploy and recover laptops, desktops, mobile devices and peripherals using approved build, encryption and endpoint-management standards.

  • Support software deployment, patching, antivirus management, device management and endpoint compliance activities.

  • Maintain accurate asset, licence, warranty, stock and configuration records, including allocation, return, secure storage and disposal.

  • Carry out routine administration and health checks across servers, storage, backup, networking, cloud and collaboration services, escalating issues where appropriate.

  • Create and maintain IT procedures, knowledge-base articles, standard operating instructions and user guidance.

  • Support onboarding and offboarding activities, office changes, hardware refreshes, application roll-outs and other IT projects.

  • Coordinate security policies, audits, evidence requests, risk registers, risk heat maps, remediation plans and security reporting.

  • Support supplier and third-party security reviews, client security questionnaires, tenders, requests for proposal and assurance activities.

  • Participate in security incident response activities, including monitoring, triage, investigation support, containment, recovery and post-incident reviews.

  • Maintain incident response plans, playbooks, escalation routes and contact lists, and support security exercises.

  • Record and escalate security incidents and suspected personal data breaches, while maintaining agreed security metrics and reporting.

  • Coordinate vulnerability remediation, secure configuration reviews, access reviews, patching activities and endpoint-compliance evidence gathering.

  • Support business continuity, disaster recovery and operational resilience reviews, tracking actions through to completion.

  • Help deliver security awareness initiatives, including phishing simulations, training and communications.

  • Coordinate with penetration-testing partners, IT suppliers and security service providers.

  • Provide practical guidance that helps colleagues follow IT and security processes effectively while balancing security, operational needs and user experience.

What we are looking for

  • Practical experience in IT support, systems administration or information security.

  • Experience administering Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID or Active Directory, including user accounts, permissions, groups and licences.

  • Experience supporting Windows devices, productivity applications, endpoint security tools and workplace technology.

  • Working knowledge of incident response, vulnerability management, identity and access management, security monitoring, patch management, networking, endpoints, enterprise infrastructure and cloud services.

  • Experience maintaining service desk, asset, configuration or compliance records.

  • Experience supporting audits, customer assurance activities, supplier risk reviews or remediation programmes.

  • Understanding of UK data protection requirements and the relationship between cyber incidents and personal data breaches.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues.

  • A practical, service-focused approach with excellent organisation, attention to detail and sound judgement.

  • The ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records and escalate concerns appropriately.

  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous learning and improvement across IT administration, infrastructure and cyber security.

It would be helpful if you have

  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender, Windows Autopilot or similar endpoint management and security platforms.

  • Experience supporting network, server, storage, backup or virtualisation administration.

  • Experience within the media, localisation, post-production or content services sectors.

  • Knowledge of International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, Trusted Partner Network (TPN) or similar security frameworks.

  • Knowledge of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Extended Detection and Response (XDR) or vulnerability management platforms.

  • A relevant certification, such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, CompTIA Security+ or CompTIA Network+.

Why join VSI?
