About the role
Your role will be to take lead accountability for developing the Quality and Compliance strategy across the business and ensuring its successful implementation. As a company that ships millions of beautifully designed and crafted products each year, this is an exciting, high impact role with a direct impact on Abbott Lyon’s overall Customer Experience and Brand sentiment.
Reporting into the Product Director, you will be the subject expert in the business for all things Quality and Compliance, ensuring our end to end processes (from product development through to post purchase support) are designed to minimise issues across the Supply Chain. You will partner with teams across Product Management, Finance, Operations, and Customer Service (to name a few), in addition to our external vendors, to ensure Quality data and regulatory compliance are embedded into our decision-making processes, resulting in a reduction in the overall financial exposure relating to quality and further reaffirming our brand credibility.
This role is perfectly suited to somebody who is data driven, collaborative and “never done” when it comes to improving processes and ways of working.
What you’ll be doing:
Quality Assurance (Proactive):
Develop and maintain the company’s Quality Management Programme to support consistent, proactive product quality across the design and production lifecycle.
Lead supplier audits and onboarding processes to ensure compliance with quality, ethical, and sustainability standards.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with design, production, and supply chain teams to pre-empt quality issues.
Embed quality planning at the Design/NPD stage to mitigate potential non-conformance
Quality Control (Reactive):
Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions in response to customer complaints, feedback and returns
Maintain detailed records of product non-conformance and track quality KPIs for regular reporting to supply base and internal leadership
Collaborate with Customer Service teams to support timely, satisfactory resolution of quality-related issues.
Create monthly insight dashboard to show product quality trends and the commercial and customer experience impact of improvements/initiatives already live
Data analysis and insight:
In partnership with Operations/Customer Experience Leadership, analyse replacement and refund data to identify the rate of issues on a product and category level (the “fault rate”) and whether there are new products/trends requiring attention
Analyse the financial impact of replacements and refunds relating to product quality, identifying drivers of this cost (e.g. product mix, AOV, process non-compliance) and associated improvement opportunities
Lead Quality & Compliance strategy:
Develop the overarching strategy, covering everything from website and post-purchase comms through to warranty details and manufacturing enhancements
Lead the project management of Quality improvement across the business, ensuring there is ongoing focus on the top opportunity areas (e.g. plating, product design improvements) and that agreed actions are executed
Regulatory Compliance & Testing
Ensure compliance with all relevant UK, EU, and international regulations governing jewellery, including REACH, Nickel Directive and other applicable standards.
Develop and implement a robust product testing and certification programme
Act as the main point of contact with external testing laboratories and regulatory bodies.
Keep up to date with legislative changes and emerging standard, advising senior management on implications
Corporate Social Responsibility:
Champion ethical sourcing, sustainability, and responsible business practices throughout the supply chain.
Monitor and enforce compliance with the company’s ethical trading policies, including supplier audits, social compliance checks, and materials management.
Drive sustainability initiatives aligned with industry best practices and consumer expectations.
We are excited about you because:
You have proven experience in quality management, compliance, and supplier management in a high-volume manufacturing or retail environment, and are able to “jump in” on building our strategic roadmap
You have strong knowledge of UK, US and EU regulatory frameworks for jewellery and consumer products, combined with familiarity with product testing protocols and external testing bodies.
You are comfortable with the Technical components of Product Quality (e.g. manufacturing processes and product design)
You demonstrate a passion for sustainability and ethical business practices.
You are both strategic and analytical, with an ability to break down problems and drive solutions; proven track-record translating data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations
You have a proven track-record of cross functional collaboration and influencing business partners
You are an exceptional communicator with strong written, verbal and presentation skills, and the ability to convey effectively complex data to diverse audiences
You have strong interpersonal skills, with a hunger for learning and development; a team player with a positive attitude
You have a strong ability to prioritise and manage resources to maximise results
You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment with other colleagues who are also motivated and collaborative
