Project Director - Rail
Project Director- London
We are seeking an experienced Project Director or Senior Project Manager to work directly alongside our Transport for London (TfL) client team within their London offices. This is a highly client-focused role requiring an individual who can identify opportunities within TfL's programme portfolio, translate strategic requirements into deliverable work packages, develop scopes of work, prepare cost estimates and commercial proposals, and lead project delivery through to successful completion.
The successful candidate will possess extensive experience working on TfL, London Underground, DLR, Elizabeth Line, Tram, or wider London rail infrastructure programmes , with a strong understanding of TfL governance, assurance processes, procurement routes, and stakeholder environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Embedded within TfL client offices, developing trusted relationships with client stakeholders.
- Identifying upcoming opportunities and emerging workstreams across rail and transport programmes.
- Translating client requirements into clearly defined scopes of work.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and consulting teams to develop proposals and solutions.
- Preparing estimates, budgets, commercial submissions and pricing proposals.
- Supporting business development and work-winning activities.
- Leading project mobilisation and delivery from inception through to completion.
- Managing programme, budget, risk, stakeholder engagement, change control and project reporting.
- Acting as the primary interface between client teams and delivery organisations.
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially and in accordance with TfL standards.
Essential Experience
- 10+ years' experience delivering rail or transport infrastructure projects.
- Direct experience working for or alongside Transport for London (TfL) .
- Experience within London Underground, Elizabeth Line, DLR, Trams, Surface Transport or Major Projects environments.
- Proven ability to define project scopes and convert client needs into deliverable commissions.
- Strong commercial and estimating capability with responsibility for budgets, pricing and financial control.
- Demonstrable experience managing multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of TfL governance, approvals and assurance processes.
