Customs Specialist
Job description
The role of the Customs Specialist UK involves overseeing and managing the trade and compliance aspects of postal and eCommerce operations for Spring GDS UK, ensuring that postal and eCommerce operations comply with all relevant international trade regulations, export/import laws, and customs requirements.
This role is instrumental in facilitating international eCommerce transactions while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, ultimately contributing to the success and growth of the company's global business.
Trade Compliance
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about changes in trade laws and regulations, and implement necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
- Documentation: Manage and review documentation related to international shipments, including customs declarations, checking of HS Codes, IOSS & EORI numbers, import/export licenses, and other required paperwork.
- Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks related to trade compliance issues, such as tariffs, sanctions, and trade restrictions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various teams, including logistics, supply chain, legal, and finance, to ensure a cohesive and compliant eCommerce operation. Embrace technology and agile methodologies.
- Training and Education: Provide training to internal teams to raise awareness of trade compliance requirements and best practices.
- Auditing and Monitoring: Assist with customs compliance audits to ensure adherence to trade and compliance policies and monitor ongoing activities for compliance.
- Customer Satisfaction: Together with business representatives and customers, co-create and support new opportunities in the area of Customs; Participate in projects for new product or service development coordinating / liaising on customs and operational matters.
Stakeholder Management
- Support internal relationships within CBS especially linking front end (Product management, PostNL and Spring) and back end operations.
- Liaise with Product management , Supply Chain owners and managers and operational designers within CBS to make sure the products and supply chain are compliant in relation to customs and security regulations and policies.
- Continue develop and maintain the Customs Control Framework, including effective controls and analysis of outcomes and mitigating actions.
- Manage Issue solving, spot-checks, data corrections on regular and daily basis.
Knowledge sharing & Collaboration
- Ensure an accessible knowledge centre is available and kept up to date with all relevant info on customs and security for the back end departments of CBS.
- Proactively organize knowledge sharing on customs and security matters in relation to the business processes.
- Assist in creating awareness and develop training programs within the business on customs and security matters.
- Work together with all the CBS/Spring departments responsible for the operational and product processes to make sure PostNL meets all security standards.
Skills:
- In-depth understanding of international trade laws, customs regulations, and eCommerce operations
- Familiarity with trade management software and compliance tools is beneficial
- Strong Microsoft skills, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong geographical knowledge
- Self-starter
- Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for working with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory authorities.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse complex trade compliance issues, assess risks, and develop effective solutions.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to identify and resolve trade compliance challenges and issues Flexible and adaptable: eCommerce and international trade landscapes are dynamic; the ability to adapt to changes in regulations and industry trends is crucial.
