Main duties of the job
In this role, you’ll play a key role in embedding our Trust values and behaviours, leading the training and development of the appraisal process, leading the quarterly pulse surveys and work alongside the Senior OD practitioner for Culture and Engagement to support the staff survey. You’ll support the design and delivery of OD interventions that foster cultural transformation, strengthen leadership capability, and build engagement across King’s.
You’ll also:
- Facilitate team development sessions and away days that support psychological safety and team effectiveness
- Gather and analyse staff feedback and organisational insight to shape and evaluate OD priorities
- Build strong relationships across the Trust to support teams through change, challenge, and growth
- Refresh and manage the OD & Leadership team’s online presence to ensure accessibility and engagement

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Organisational Development Practitioner role within the Organisational Development Team supports the trust to ensure its workforce feels valued, motivated, engaged and well led. This role supports the Head of Organisational Development & Leadership and Senior OD Practitioner in delivering Organisational Development and engagement interventions using insights to inform the work streams of the OD and wider workforce teams.
The role will support the embedding of the Trust values and behaviours by increasing trust awareness and engagement, contributing to a culture that enables our people to thrive. The post holder will also lead on the training and development of the appraisal process, and review and refresh the online presence for the Organisational Development and Leadership Team.
The postholder will also have a key role in the promotion, design, and impact measures of the Trust’s engagement vehicles, namely the annual staff survey and the quarterly pulse surveys.
The postholder will build and gather staff insight across the trust, analysing data to identify patterns, trends and relationships using diagnostic tools such as psychometrics, facilitating listening events and leading reflective support sessions. The role will also support our care groups to build their skills, capabilities and behaviours to meet patient’s needs through facilitating away days, workshops, coaching & mentoring and raising strategic awareness.

Workforce Senior Management and Leadership Team, Care Group Senior Leaders, HR Business Partners, Finance Partners, Strategy team, Head of Careers – the Apprenticeship Team, Equality Diversity and Inclusion Teams, Health & Wellbeing Teams, Communications Team, Nursing and Medical education teams, Kings Partners and OD&L colleagues from other NHS Trusts.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Organisational Development
• Deliver innovative OD interventions which have significant impact on departments and teams by utilising a wide range of OD skills, tools and interventions to effect change and strategic alignment.
• Support senior management during complex change, encouraging a people-orientated approach. Provide leading edge thinking, advice and challenge to stakeholders on organisation development issues pertaining to change programmes
• Lead on the training and development of the appraisal process, liaising with key stakeholders where necessary
• Support embedding of the Trust’s Values and Behaviours through various promotions, supportive resources, workshops and evaluating impact
• Support the planning, delivery and action planning of the annual staff survey and lead on the National Quarterly Pulse Surveys engagement plan and delivery
• Work closely with senior HR Business Partners and their teams to provide tailored OD support to the Trust including coaching, mentoring and facilitation.
• Regularly undertake OD research and development in relation to best practice, benchmarking with other trusts, organisations and sectors to add value to our internal OD services
• Collate and report on OD data and trends to increase overall organisational outcomes
• Contribute to the preparation and presentation of reports on performance of OD programmes against agreed KPIs and objectives
• Review and refresh the online presence for the Organisational Development and Leadership Team linking in with key stakeholders around accessibility and inclusion
General
• Role model the Trust’s Values and Behaviours and lead from a position of embodying the change required in the system.
• Work with and support colleagues in the OD team to meet the collective outcomes of the OD workplan.
• Support the translation of national policies and initiatives into effective local action, by supporting the development of long term strategies and action plans across the Trust, by planning and delivering organisational development interventions to support necessary organisational and service developments.
• Lead and work in partnership with national OD organisations, NHS and Non NHS to develop the underpinning knowledge through research and evaluation.
• Actively engage in ongoing personal learning and development and team development through engagement in developmental supervision.
• Champion a continuous improvement mind set and a ‘can do’ approach to OD support
There may be other portfolios or workforce priorities that fall within the post holders remit and these will be reviewed and agreed with the Head of OD&L and the Senior OD Practitioner for Culture & Experience.
The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or holder of equivalent professional qualification in OD, HR or Psychology
Desirable criteria
- Coaching and or Mentoring Qualification
- Accredited to deliver psychometric tools
- Member of CIPD, BPS or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- A track record of delivering high quality results at pace;
- Part of a high performing workforce or organisational development function in the past which has enabled business transformation;
- Strong track record of building teams capability through team development, facilitation and training
- Experienced in developing approaches to and gathering qualitative and quantitative insight
- Experienced in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative insight to identify patterns and relationships
Desirable criteria
- Experienced in developing, writing and launching engagement and culture strategies with supporting implementation and communication plans
- Experience of problem solving organisational issues through people development and strategic awareness
- Experienced in influencing and driving change at the highest level
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- Qualitative and quantitative data analysis to recognise patterns, trends and relationships
- Influencing and relationship management skills;
- Strong skills in facilitation and training delivery
- Ability to translate strategic goals into clear delivery plans;
- Strong project management skills
