The Role

Customer-centric people operations are at the heart of the People Function and the recent creation of an Employee Relations (ER) centre of excellence, sitting within our People Operations team is one of the key drivers to the success of our People transformation.

The ER team provide coaching and expertise on a range of ER issues, such as performance management, absence management, grievance, and disciplinary procedures. Your role, as ER Partner – Policies, will support our ER objectives by focusing on the development of our suite of ER toolkits: policies, procedures and other tools, that align to our values, promote a positive and fair working environment and empower line managers to take ownership of ER matters. We have started to consistently gather data about ER matters across the Group and your ability to identify 2 insights and analyse data that shape the programmes and interventions we deliver will ensure we continuously improve our working environment and culture.

The scope of this role is global (including US, Europe and Bermuda).

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and update ER toolkits including policies and procedures, ensuring they promote a people-centric, high-performance culture, underpinned by our values, Create a roadmap to prioritise which toolkits need to be created when, informed by ER data insights, business need and legislative timetables
  • Use service design principles to create toolkits including the use of system thinking, personas, empathy mapping and story boarding
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of products by testing prototypes with user groups and building the learning into future iterations
  • Follow the Hiscox brand principles to communicate with employees in a recognisable Hiscox style
  • Use the toolkits to empower managers to resolve simpler people issues, educating managers to handle these matters independently of the people function.
  • Analyse ER data and trends, providing insights and recommendations to continuously improve the Hiscox working environment and culture.
  • Upskill line managers, using additional tools such as training and facilitation to increase capabilities, promoting knowledge of policies, procedures and best practices and skills in handling people issues.
  • Partner with colleagues across the People Function including client facing teams, the central people experience tier one team and other centres of excellence to share ER knowledge, insights and learnings that promote continuous improvement.
  • Create and foster a collaborative and inclusive working relationship with client facing teams and the business to ensure products and solutions are co-created, communicated and delivered effectively, informing, and educating on the changing employment law landscape.
  • Keep up to date with employment law, and horizon scan to identify external trends and best practices.

Skills

Technical Expertise – substantial practical experience of managing ER issues, preferably in a complex, global organisation. Excellent knowledge of UK employment law, ER trends and best practice.

Communication – You possess exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas and concepts to a diverse range of stakeholders. Your written communication style is clear, concise, and persuasive, enabling you to build strong connections and engage with your audience.

You actively solicit user feedback, staying attuned to their evolving needs and preferences, and leverage industry best practices to inform your approach.

Person Specification

  • Substantial experience of managing complex ER cases (3-5 years)
  • Ideally qualified in employment law, via the CIPD or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment.
  • Experience of delivering ER training and facilitation.
  • Experience of managing global ER, specifically in the US or in Europe Flexible
