Undergraduate Project Assistant

Unitemps
London

The Centre for Language and Communication Science Research, within which the internships will be based, is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary research centre producing world leading research funded by NIHR , UKRI, and leading charity funders. Centre members meet regularly to develop research ideas, critically discuss and provide feedback from colleagues and learn from each other; doctoral researchers are an important part of this group and have regular opportunities to present and receive feedback on their research. Activities provided by the Research Centre include training and career development forums, facilitated writing days, peer review of research proposals and applications, student presentation days, access to methodological experts and other research training opportunities tailored to each individual student. This experience will provide a thorough grounding in the training and skills development required to enable interns to experience success in a research and experience a high-quality research culture to underpin an impactful research career.

The interns will work within the Adult Assessment and Intervention Research (AAIR) group. This group is dedicated to researching adult language and communication, including aphasia, interventions to improve communication, and the assessment and measurement of outcomes in individuals with communication difficulties. Our team is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

Three Undergraduate Interns currently enrolled at City St George’s, University of London.

Two interns will be based with the FATE-A research team. This team is investigating the equivalence of face-to-face and telehealth delivered assessment in aphasia and developing a toolkit to support telehealth delivery of assessment. The interns’ main responsibility will be to support work exploring the fidelity of telehealth delivered assessments (e.g., checklist for adherence to assessment process; rate reliability). They will work in a pair and receive training and support.

One intern will be based in the TANGO research team. This team is adapting communication partner training for adults with cognitive communication disorders following acquired brain injury and their communication partners. This involves supporting codesign sessions (e.g. preparing materials, managing sign-in sheets). Training in the required administrative tasks will be provided.

All interns will be responsible for:

- Entering and organise data collected from sessions using secure platforms.

- Assisting with the preparation of public-facing materials, such as project newsletters, blog posts, or infographics based on project team guidance.

- Supporting meeting logistics (e.g. minute taking, sending agendas).

- Attending internal team meetings to take notes and provide admin support.

- Developing a better understanding of research processes and the various career pathways available.

Benefits:

- Gain hands-on experience in a supportive research environment.

- Work with a team of researchers at different stages of their career (early career researcher/senior researcher/professor).

- Opportunities for professional growth and development.

- Flexible working hours to accommodate your academic schedule.

- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

- Commitment to ongoing learning and development.

The successful candidate should currently be enrolled in an undergraduate health-related programme (BSc 1/3 or 2/3).

This includes students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, those with disabilities, and ethnic minority students. The goal is to create a more equitable and diverse workforce and address systemic barriers to accessing and succeeding in research careers. *
