Principal Delivery Lead (Freelance)

• Ideal start date Friday 19th June
• 8 week discovery moving straight into delivery phase.
• Client is a High street Retailer client looking at defining and then building a software product called "Menu Management"
• Looking at deep experience in discovery stage for complex software products
• Facilitating discovery activities with a cross functional product team (Design / Product / Tech / UX)
• Excellent client and stakeholder management skills

We are looking for a Principal Delivery Consultant with a strong track record of large-scale delivery experience to ensure successful delivery of programmes of work at Red Badger.

We deliver successfully using lean and agile techniques, focusing on user value and building quality into everything we do. As a Principal Delivery Consultant you will take responsibility for the quality of delivery across a client engagement with multiple cross-functional teams, maintaining alignment with Red Badger ways of working, while empowering the Delivery Leads on each team you support to drive quality and product delivery with autonomy. You're equally comfortable providing leadership and governance across a multi-team programme as you are providing high-value consulting services to shape a client’s digital delivery strategy or run a proof-of-concept workstream for executive stakeholders.

You will be reporting into the Business Unit (Cell) Delivery Director, working closely with a cross-functional leadership team consisting of Cell MD, Delivery Director, Technology Director and Product Director and other Principal roles.

The Principal Delivery Consultant will focus on:

• Successful delivery of client outcomes across multiple-team programmes
• Consulting the client to define and execute a strong delivery strategy
• Quality of delivery using Lean and Agile methodologies
• Empowering, coaching and supporting delivery leads
• Delivery Discipline Leadership

Key Responsibilities

Discipline expertise

• Accountable for programme level planning and alignment, data based forecasting, reporting, and identifying and resolving organisational level risks, impediment or blockers
• Accountable for delivery quality across the client engagement ensuring consistency of approach and a clear governance framework
• Enabling continuous improvement and high quality outcomes through the promotion of lead agile methodologies
• Driving successful project delivery, collaborating within a team of Delivery Leads
• Managing project/programme finances and working with cell leadership to drive account profitability
• Championing the Delivery discipline on complex digital transformation projects

Collaborative leadership

• Commercial awareness and input to account planning with Cell leadership
• Influence and align client organisation and badger teams to lean and agile practices
• Responsible for account level delivery leadership and governance
• Collaborate with the Principal Product and Technology roles to give delivery teams space and autonomy to thrive
• Support shaping new sales opportunities and contracts

Client influencer

• Setting and implementing a delivery strategy and framework across multiple teams for clients to solve large scale and complex problems
• Aligning stakeholders across the client organisation to the delivery strategy by contextualising your decisions through influence and diplomacy
• Communicate with confidence to a broad range of stakeholders and client teams
• Become a trusted advisor to our clients by collaborating with them to deliver business and user value

Build Red Badger capability

• Caring for peoples’ careers and wellbeing, with the potential for line management responsibilities
• Providing discipline coaching and mentoring, supporting and inspiring all the Delivery Leads within the client engagement
• Contribute to Red Badger’s place in the industry
• Provide Delivery discipline thought leadership and contribute to the growth of Red Badger brand in the industry
• Champion Red Badger’s ways of working: cross-functional teams, continuously delivering value, building quality
• Be an ambassador for Red Badger, and an advocate for ‘doing the right thing’, ‘doing the thing right’ by supporting and enabling others to do so

Your experience 
It’d be great if you have  

• You are an expert practitioner of agile and lean practices drawing on inspiration from established frameworks and able to adapt based on environment and circumstances.
• You are focused on data-driven delivery, use data to drive your decisions and help others to do the same.
• You can understand and forecast key deliverables and communicate a project’s status clearly with senior stakeholders. When you see risks to delivery, you help teams mitigate them.
• You are able to tailor your message to suit your audience’s needs using your exceptional communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity, you have a proven track record of delivering quality digital products in complex environments, through all phases of a product’s lifecycle.
• Outcome and value-driven, you can clearly articulate the user and business value of the work your teams have delivered.
• You are comfortable managing, coaching and mentoring other Delivery Leads, helping them to elevate themselves and contribute to larger programme goals in a multi-team engagement.
• You’re an agile and lean advocate that can coach and educate without being dogmatic. You are able to share knowledge and understanding to ensure we’re delivering the right thing, the right way.
• You are commercially savvy, are able to draft contracts for new engagements, and help contribute to a sustainable account strategy.

It’d be amazing if you can also 

• Have started or introduced the delivery delivery community of practice or guild in a previous organisation
• Experience hiring and staffing a new delivery team
• Have public speaking or producing content experience on lean and agile delivery in the industry
• Have proactively identify ways to improve the delivery discipline’s outward-facing reputation and find avenues to promote your previous organisation’s brand externally
• You have clear opinions on the effectiveness of different frameworks and methodologies and can use real case studies to bring your opinions to life
