Field Operations Manager - Commercial
Purpose of the Role:
To manage and monitor a team of operatives and subcontractors delivering repairs, servicing, and reactive maintenance of heating systems and associated plant in residential and commercial settings. This includes boiler rooms, pumps, BMS, ventilation, water tanks, and other mechanical systems. The role focuses on ensuring high-quality, timely completion of works aligned with client KPIs and contractual compliance. The supervisor will also be responsible for team performance, training needs, and coordination with commercial administration teams.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Supervise and support operatives in delivering repairs and maintenance tasks.
Ensure compliance with Gas Safe, industry standards, and internal guidelines.
Liaise with admin teams to provide progress updates and manage scheduling.
Oversee part requisitions, van stock levels, and equipment condition.
Monitor and manage operative productivity and performance.
Resource & Workflow Planning
Allocate resources based on seasonal and contractual demand.
Coordinate follow-on works and referrals with relevant teams.
Ensure optimal use and security of tools, vehicles, and mobile devices.
Team Leadership & Development
Identify and address training needs within the team.
Conduct regular performance reviews and support team development.
Foster effective communication with operatives and clients.
Promote teamwork and professional standards across the team.
Compliance & Quality
Ensure compliance with SFG20 standards and contractual KPIs.
Drive service improvements and operational efficiency.
Track and resolve customer issues, complaints, and missed appointments.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
Produce internal and client reports as required.
Provide insights and feedback to stakeholders.
Maintain collaboration with internal departments to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Area Requirement Education A-Level or NVQ Level 3 (Essential) Certifications ACS (CCN1, CEN1, WAT1/CENWAT, etc.) (Essential); Gas Safety Cert (Desirable); Asbestos Awareness (Essential); IOSH (Essential) Experience 3+ years in management; experience leading a team of 5+; experience with commercial contracts (All Essential); Gas Servicing contract management (Desirable) Skills Full UK Driving Licence; Excellent communication, time management, and people management; HR knowledge and technical development (Desirable)
