Editorial Assistant , Wanderlust Magazine
Full time, UK based (hybrid) - salary £29-£40K DOE
Wanderlust , the UK’s leading independent travel magazine, is looking for a talented and motivated Editorial Assistant to join our award winning team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who lives and breathes travel, has sharp editorial instincts, and wants to help shape the stories that inspire our curious, globally minded readers.
As Editorial Assistant, you will support the smooth running of our print and digital operations while contributing your own ideas, writing, and creativity. You will work closely with editors, writers, photographers, and contributors to help deliver the intelligent, responsible, and distinctive travel journalism for which Wanderlust is known.
What you’ll do
- Write engaging travel news stories and support the team in monitoring global travel developments
- Contribute to feature production, from research and fact checking to drafting shorter pieces and sidebars
- Create quizzes and interactive formats that bring destinations and cultures to life
- Upload magazine content to wanderlustmagazine.com, ensuring high editorial standards, correct formatting, strong imagery, and effective SEO
- Refresh and update existing online stories to keep them relevant and reader focused
- Support the creation of newsletters by drafting copy, shaping sections, and preparing layouts
- Assist with social media output, helping craft posts that reflect Wanderlust’s voice and visual style
- Play an active role in weekly planning, keeping an eye on industry movements, rival coverage, and emerging travel trends
- Update the homepage to ensure it showcases our strongest, most timely content
- Handle incoming email queries via info@ and website@, forwarding or responding as needed
- Proofread and copy edit copy across platforms to uphold our editorial quality
- Coordinate with contributors, managing submissions, images, contracts, and deadlines
- Prepare articles for publication, including headlines, standfirsts, captions, and metadata
- Assist with image sourcing and captioning for print and digital stories
- Provide general editorial support, maintaining calendars, organising files, and liaising with other departments
What we’re looking for
- A strong writer with a keen eye for detail and a clear, confident style
- Proven interest in travel, global cultures, and storytelling
- Excellent organisational skills and an ability to juggle multiple deadlines
- Familiarity with digital publishing, SEO, and social media
- Proactive, curious, and comfortable working in a fast moving editorial environment
- Experience with CMS platforms and basic image handling is an advantage
- Strong sub-editing skills with a passion for accuracy and clarity
