Role Overview

A vibrant and ambitious secondary school in Haringey is seeking an experienced, strategic, and highly organized School Business Manager (SBM) to join their Senior Leadership Team ASAP. In this executive operational role, you will lead the non-teaching functions of the school, taking overall responsibility for Finance, Human Resources, Premises & Facilities Management, Health & Safety, Procurement, and Administrative Services. Working closely with the Headteacher and Governing Body, you will play a critical role in strategic financial planning, ensuring robust resource management, statutory compliance, and optimal funding allocation to support pupil achievement.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all financial management systems, including multi-year budget planning, forecasting, financial modelling, payroll management, and statutory audit compliance.

• Lead, line-manage, and develop the non-teaching support teams, including Finance, HR, Administrative, and Site/Premises staff.

• Manage school premises, facilities, health and safety protocols, capital build projects, and estate maintenance contracts to ensure a safe, high-quality learning environment.

• Direct procurement, tendering procedures, and supplier contract negotiations to deliver maximum value for money across all school services.

• Oversee HR administration, recruitment procedures, single central record (SCR) maintenance, and compliance with employment legislation and local authority guidelines.

• Advise the Headteacher and Governing Body on strategic operational decisions, risk management, and income generation initiatives.

Key Requirements

• Professional qualification in School Business Management (e.g., CSBM/DSBM/ILM) or relevant finance/business accreditations (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, CIPD).

• Proven experience as a School Business Manager, Finance Director, or Senior Operations Manager within an educational setting.

• In-depth knowledge of school financial frameworks, ESFA/Local Authority compliance, and educational management systems (e.g., SIMS, FMS, PS Financials, Civica).

• Strong track record in team leadership, budget management (£M+), premises oversight, and strategic procurement.

• Exceptional strategic planning, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.

• Legal right to work in the UK.
