What It's Like to Work Here
Our customers come from all walks of life and so do our people. We're a small but perfectly formed team of insurance specialists, technologists, data scientists and customer champions - all bringing individual expertise, an appetite for innovation and a shared ambition to protect the homes and things people love.
We work at pace, but we trust our people to work in a way that brings out their best. You'll collaborate closely across teams, have real ownership from day one and see the impact you have first-hand with flexible working to help you balance the needs of your role with the rhythm of your life.
We've been recognised as a Great Place to Work UK for seven consecutive years - most recently ranked 29th nationally, jumping 71 places in a single year.
ROLE PURPOSE
We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the outcome of this domain, not just the output of the team building it. You will set the strategic direction for the roadmap, weigh trade-offs across customer value, usability, technical feasibility and business viability (commercial, operational and regulatory), and make sound calls on ambiguous, highstakes decisions where the evidence is incomplete or stakeholders disagree.
You will lead this domain jointly with an Engineering Manager, as equal partners, and are expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, needing little day-to-day oversight. Beyond the domain, you will act as a senior voice in decisions that reach across multiple domains or the wider product portfolio, mentor other Product Managers, and help define the standards and craft of the Product Manager discipline as it matures at Homeprotect.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Outcome & Roadmap Ownership
• Own the problem definition for the Underwriting & Pricing domain: what problem is being solved, for whom, and why it matters now.
• Set the strategic direction for the roadmap and its prioritization, basing decisions on evidence such as data, customer insight, and business and regulatory context, rather than on stakeholder seniority or influence.
• Translate business strategy into a roadmap with measurable outcomes, and translate delivery constraints back into business decisions.
• Hold joint accountability with the Engineering Manager for what the team ships and its measurable impact.
• Assess every initiative against value, usability, feasibility and business viability, including commercial, operational and regulatory considerations.
• Represent the domain's priorities in trade-offs that span multiple domains or the wider product portfolio, operating with minimal oversight.
• Be accountable for domain-level metrics such as quote-to-bind conversion rate, gross written premium (GWP), loss ratio and time-to-market for pricing and underwriting rule changes, and for how those metrics trade off against priorities in other domains.
Discovery & Evidence-Based Decision Making
• Bring together the right people (Engineering, Actuarial, Commercial, Risk, Customer Experience) to work through options and trade-offs before a decision is made.
• Drive clear recommendations grounded in customer, operational, technical and commercial impact, so decisions can be made confidently at domain level rather than escalated by default.
• Use data and customer insight to validate assumptions and test whether a proposed change is likely to work before committing engineering investment.
• Own the outcome measures for the domain, so Homeprotect can demonstrably show it is monitoring and improving customer outcomes over time (in support of Consumer Duty and TCF expectations).
• Exercise sound judgement on ambiguous, high-stakes decisions where evidence is incomplete or stakeholders disagree, and be accountable for the recommendation reached.
Partnership with Engineering & the Business
• Partner with the Engineering Manager as a joint, equal lead of the domain team, sharing accountability for the roadmap and its delivery.
• Work closely with Actuarial teams to turn pricing models, underwriting rules and risk appetite into a roadmap engineering can build against.
• Collaborate with Commercial teams on pricing optimisation, experimentation and controlled product changes.
• Partner with the Policy Administration Platform team and Customer Experience teams to ensure quote and policy journeys work end to end for the customer.
• Build trusted relationships across the business, so stakeholders see the domain roadmap as evidence-led and owned, not as a queue for requests.
• Act as a trusted senior voice with executive and cross-functional stakeholders on decisions that reach beyond the domain.
Product Craft, Mentoring & Continuous Improvement
• Bring product discipline to the domain: structured discovery, evidence-based prioritisation and outcome measurement, rather than requirements capture alone.
• Continuously improve how the domain roadmap is shaped and communicated, so business and engineering share a common view of priorities and trade-offs.
• Mentor other Product Managers, sharing craft, judgement and ways of working as they develop in the role.
• Help define the standards, craft and career expectations of the Product Manager discipline at Homeprotect as it grows.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
• Proven experience as a Product Manager owning the outcome of a product area, not just producing requirements for engineering or a business stakeholder.
• Track record of owning outcomes at significant scale: across multiple product areas, a major business capability, or comparable scope and complexity.
• Experience building and setting the strategic direction for a roadmap based on evidence (data, customer insight, business strategy) rather than stakeholder seniority alone.
• Experience weighing trade-offs across customer value, usability, technical feasibility and business viability, including on ambiguous, high-stakes decisions where evidence is incomplete.
• Experience partnering closely with an Engineering Manager or engineering leader as a joint, equal lead of a team or domain.
• Demonstrated ability to bring together stakeholders from different functions, drive a recommendation and build trust on both sides of a decision, including with senior and executive stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring or developing other Product Managers.
• Strong communication skills, able to translate business strategy into a roadmap and delivery constraints back into business decisions.
• Comfortable working directly with data: able to query or interpret data (for example using SQL or analytics tooling) to test assumptions and track outcomes, rather than relying solely on others to produce insight.
• Comfortable operating with a high degree of independence and accountability for outcomes, rather than following a pre-defined specification.
Desirable
• Experience in General Insurance or another highly regulated industry.
• Understanding of pricing, underwriting, actuarial or risk concepts.
• Familiarity with Consumer Duty (TCF) and how it applies to product outcome ownership.
• Experience helping establish or evolve a Product Manager function, its standards or its ways of working, ideally in an organisation going through a similar transformation.
• Experience working alongside Actuarial, Commercial or Risk teams.
