Job Description
The role sits within the Managed Services function of the Data & AI practice. The delivery function develops and builds Data Platforms, Integrations, ML platforms etc for our clients – and Managed Services provides ongoing support and management once built and delivered.
We are looking to supplement our team with a Junior Data Engineer; to help monitor, triage incidents, and carry out small development works on the platforms we oversee.
You’ll be working, collaborating and socialising with your colleagues across all three of our offices in the UK, Bulgaria, and India. There will be a need to work outside of the normal office hours occasionally, but this can be remotely (from your home) and of course, this time will be recognised and rewarded.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with exceptional interpersonal skills who is passionate and eager to learn new skills. There will be regular contact with clients, so applicants must be comfortable discussing technical concepts in a clear and concise language.
Qualifications
As a Junior Data Engineer in the Managed Services team, your responsibilities will include the following:
- Interacting regularly with the clients whose Data Platforms we support.
- Monitoring platform health, processing, incidents, and overall stability.
- Proactively responding to incidents and problems with the platforms we are supporting; investigating and resolving where possible and escalating more complex or ambiguous issues to the seniors on your team.
- Ensuring clients are regularly updated and informed about any incidents, progress, or blockers with incident resolution.
- Deepening your understanding of the platforms we support, the general Azure Data ecosystem, and platform design and architecture best practices and approaches in order to take more responsibility for improvements, development, and stability of data platforms.
- Maintain and update documentation with architecture details, common incidents and resolutions, and other useful information to ensure a smooth and professional service.
- Collaborate with other members of the Managed Service team at all levels, to develop your data skillset.
Experience & Skills
- Experience or exposure to modern data platform technology, ideally cloud based (Azure preferable).
- Demonstrable exposure to Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Synapse, Power BI, SQL Server – not necessarily from a work environment.
- Demonstrable understanding of SQL; querying,
- Strong record of organisation, proactivity and diligence – ideally in a customer facing environment.
- Attention to detail and a focus on continual improvement
- Problem solving and ability to identify both opportunities and issues
- Strong ability to communicate (with strong written and spoken English) – experience leading meetings or sessions would be ideal.
- An understanding of appropriate communication styles for different client seniorities.
- Experience with Python (and pyspark/pandas/polars), or another programming language would be beneficial.
