HGV Class 1 Driver (C+E) – Tramping Operations

Salary range: £46,800 – £51,000 per annum

Location: Bedford depot (MK44 1FD) – 6 months minimum provable commercial experience required.

About the role

Our organisation runs a 24/7 haulage network supporting one of the world’s largest online retailers. As a trusted HGV driver you will operate from our Bedford depot, transporting trailers between Regional Distribution Centres (RDCs) without hand‑ball. You will be part of a growing tramper pool that values reliability, professionalism, and a safety‑first attitude.

Key Responsibilities

• Pick up and drop off trailers at designated RDCs across the network.
• Swap trailers efficiently to keep the supply chain moving.
• Maintain compliance with all road‑safety and company procedures.
• Report any incidents or vehicle issues promptly.
• Collaborate with depot staff and fellow drivers to achieve on‑time deliveries.

What We Require

• Valid C+E entitlement on your driving licence.
• Valid UK CPC card and Digital Tachograph card.
• Minimum 6 months provable commercial driving experience (CE experience is a plus).
• Maximum of six penalties (no DD, DR or IN endorsements).
• Right‑to‑work documentation for the UK.
• Good English language skills for safety communication.
• Willingness to undergo a background check and drug & alcohol testing.

Working Conditions

• Full‑time, 24/7 operation based at Bedford depot.
