We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and forward-thinking individual to join our team as the Deputy Head of Pharmacy and Clinical Services Manager. In this key leadership position, you will be responsible for providing direction, guidance, and innovation to ensure that our clinical pharmacy services meet the needs of both our patients and clinicians. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that our clinical pharmacy services are both high quality and cost-effective, aligning them with the objectives of the Trust, national healthcare initiatives, and medicines management strategies.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deputise for the Associate Director of Pharmacy, Royal London and Mile End Hospitals (RLH & MEH) and lead on delegated operational functions.

The Deputy Head of Pharmacy and Clinical Services Manager is responsible for leading the development and implementation of clinical pharmacy services across the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring patients receive safe, high quality and clinically effective pharmaceutical care.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the Clinical Pharmacy Service at RLH&MEH with strategic direction from the Associate Director of Pharmacy in line with the over-arching pharmacy strategy.

Essential criteria

• Experience in hospital pharmacy management
• Project management experience, and previous participation in service delivery planning
• Proven track record in managing staff, time and resources to deliver timely outcomes
• Proven track record of maintaining good relationships with clinicians, finance and general management
• Liaison with a range of professional and NHS organisations
• Experience of managing clinical teams. Previous participation in audit and / or research
• Experience of working closely with senior managerial, nursing, medical and pharmacy staff, a range of professional and NHS organisations
• Experience in implementing cost saving projects
• Experience of managing drug and staff budgets
• Significant post registration experience

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working in complex clinical environments.
• Experience of providing hospital-based clinical service to any specialty at Band 8a level or equivalent

• Pharmaceutical knowledge to B.Pharm., B.Sc., or M. Pharm Degree level
• Clear understanding of issues relating to Pharmacy services within the NHS
• Expert understanding of Primary and Secondary Care prescribing issues
• Integrates research evidence into practice Expert level of critical appraisal and clinical reasoning and judgment
• Understanding of clinical risk and clinical governance.

Desirable criteria

• Knowledge of all legislation relating to the procurement, storage, supply, and use of medicines
• Experience in local implementation of national standards and guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Great Britain
• Further post graduate qualification Diploma/MSc in Pharmacy Practice or Clinical Pharmacy, or equivalent

Desirable criteria

• Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
• Management/Leadership qualification
