Role: Preschool Leader
Responsible to: The Trustees who are partners with Crofton Baptist
Church, the Preschool staff, and any volunteers.
LEADER’S JOB SPECIFICATION:
The objects of the trust are the advancement of the education (including spiritual development) of children below compulsory school age, and the provision of facilities for recreation for such children in the interest of social welfare, and with the object of improving their conditions of life by providing for any children without discrimination a safe and satisfying playgroup in a christian environment where christian beliefs and values are promoted and upheld, and introducing Children and their parents to church life, where Appropriate. The preschool leader is to fulfil legal and Statutory requirements, to lead and manage staff on a day-to-day basis, and to contribute and implement Preschool policies.
Normal Hours: 8.30 am - 4.30 pm, 41 weeks per year.
Occupational Requirement:
Yes, an Occupational Requirement exists for the post holder to be a practicing Christian in accordance with The Equality Act 2010 Person Specification.
Training and Qualifications:
- A relevant Level 3 Qualification or higher (eg, Early Years Educator)
- Continued training and professional development in the Early Years ( or a related field)
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience and understanding of working with children in an early years setting.
- Experience of working with Children in a church related context.
- Ability to lead the Preschool in accordance with its stated Aims
- All-round and up-to-date knowledge of legislation relevant to Early Years, such as EYFS, SEND, safeguarding, and the Childcare Act 2006
- Good understanding and use of written and spoken English.

- Able to communicate in a culturally relevant, appropriate, and sensitive way with young people and children.
- Able to demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge
- of current thinking and development in an early years setting.

- Able to write and present clear, informative, and relevant reports..
- Able to have difficult conversations, demonstrate fairness, keep meetings on track, and follow up on decisions in a timely manner.

LEADER’S JOB DESCRIPTION.
- To ensure that each child is learning and developing, making progress in the areas of learning set out in the Early Years Foundation Guidance, and to monitor the effectiveness of the pre-school provision
- To be responsible for providing a high quality of teaching, ensuring that staff are properly deployed, and offering appropriate stimulation and support to the children.
- To ensure that the curriculum and environment support children’s learning needs and interests. As a Christian preschool, it is expected that Bible stories, songs, and prayers are included.
- To be responsible for implementing systems of recorded observation through the use of Tapestry.
- To organise the key worker system and to supervise staff on a daily basis, to be responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching, to participate in staff appraisals and supervision meetings, to identify in-service training needs, and to be responsible for staff meetings.
- To oversee the work of other staff with leadership responsibilities, eg
- Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and |SENCO, if not undertaking these roles.
- To provide a report for Trustee Meetings.
- To ensure records are maintained, eg, daily register, accident, incident, and medication book
- To liaise closely with parents/ carers as manager and key person, informing them about the pre-school, exchanging information about children’s progress, encouraging parents’ involvement, sharing information about Church events and activities.
- Organising Christmas events and Leavers events as well as sourcing Christmas gifts and Christian books for leavers.
- To ensure that the pre-school is a safe environment for children, the equipment is safe, the standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times, risk assessments are completed and reviewed, and fire drills are conducted at regular intervals.
- To liaise with Trustees, OFSTED, social services, and other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory requirements, including safeguarding and welfare, are implemented. To provide reports.
- To liaise with schools or other settings regarding transitions, safeguarding,
- Early Help or SEND needs.
- To contribute to and implement all preschool policies and procedures
- To manage pre-school petty cash.
- To attend Trustee Meetings
- To keep up to date with research, updates, or key messages regarding Early Years Practice
- To effectively use Bromley Council systems, ie, Sentinel
- Ensure the CEL website is kept up to date.
