Senior Clinical Fellow in Orthopaedics with interest in Hip Surgery

This post sits within the Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery service and combines clinical research with clinical duties.
The primary role of the postholder is to undertake clinical and translational research projects within Upper GI and bariatric surgery under the supervision of Professor Ameet Patel. Projects may include clinical studies, database research and potentially collaborative laboratory ‑ based work.
The appointment is for 12 months initially, with potential extension subject to satisfactory progress. The post includes participation in the General Surgery registrar on ‑ call rota.
This role is particularly suited to doctors who have completed core surgical training and are seeking to strengthen their academic portfolio and consider application for a higher degree or higher surgical training.
The appointee will participate in departmental teaching and will have a named educational supervisor.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will undertake clinical research projects under the supervision of Professor Ameet Patel with the aim of producing work suitable for peer reviewed publication. The post is structured to support academic output, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to manuscripts and presentations at national and international scientific meetings during the appointment. They will be expected to provide weekly progress report on their research.

HPB and Liver Surgery
HPB surgery is delivered through the Institute of Liver Studies, one of the largest liver centres in the world.
The service provides comprehensive care for acute and chronic liver disease including transplantation, major liver surgery and liver intensive care.
Clinical Organisation
This post sits within Division C – Surgery, Anaesthetics and Critical Care.
Division C includes General Surgery, UGI / Bariatrics and HPB surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Trauma and Emergency Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Major Trauma Services, Neurosciences, Cardiovascular Services and Critical Care.

- Registerable medical qualification.
- Completion of Foundation Programme

- MRCS
Registration

- Full registration with GMC with License to Practice.
Training and Experience

- Proven NHS Experience General surgery experience at registrar level (ST3-5)
Administration

- Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
