Senior Business Development Manager (Energy Majors) (Hiring Immediately)
About us
At Gridcog, we’re on a mission to accelerate investment in the clean energy transition. We are a SaaS start-up of energy nerds building the best project modelling software, so our users can make intelligent energy decisions.
Who we’re looking for
Our software enables professionals in renewable energy to make informed investments into energy projects that deliver economic and environmental value. Our clients include many of the world’s leading Developers, IPPs, Consultants and Energy Majors, including Shell, TotalEnergies and AGL.
Based in our London office, you will help grow our presence with Energy Majors and Utilities across Europe, inheriting a healthy pipeline of opportunities. These accounts focus on behind-the-meter projects, including fully financed assets paid back via a long-term PPA (such as Battery as a Service and Energy as a Service structures), data centres, e-mobility, and onsite generation and storage. Gridcog is experiencing strong growth in this client sector, driven by increasing project complexity that requires advanced modelling software.
You will be able to quickly build rapport with our clients and prospects, empathise with their challenges (modelling complex energy projects) and demonstrate how Gridcog’s software solution will help. Within these accounts we can work with many different teams, so you’ll be comfortable running a multi-faceted sales process. You will own new business growth targets for Gridcog within this ICP across Europe, delivering on a pre-agreed quarterly sales target.
You’ll also have a passion for the Gridcog mission, be a self-starter who is happy to work at pace in a fast growing startup, and enjoy collaborating with your colleagues globally. If this sounds like you, please read on!
What you’ll do as part of our team
- Contribute to Gridcog’s growth by winning new Energy Major and Utility accounts across Europe, in line with agreed company and individual targets. This includes managing and qualifying the pipeline you inherit from our leadership team (who have previously led sales for this ICP), targeting specific client accounts, managing client demo processes and closing opportunities.
- Build relationships across the many teams within each account, identifying new use cases and opportunities for Gridcog.
- Develop a strong understanding of behind-the-meter energy projects across Europe, including fully financed assets paid back via a long-term PPA (such as Battery as a Service and Energy as a Service structures), data centres, e-mobility, and onsite generation and storage, positioning yourself to support leading companies in delivering these projects.
- Share customer and market insights with the wider Gridcog team.
- Build your personal brand in the European energy industry by attending events and supporting Gridcog marketing activity.
- Follow and improve our commercial processes including keeping your pipeline and deal records up to date in our CRM.
- Act as part of a global team, supporting your colleagues in pursuit of company-wide goals.
- Learn from and contribute to a small but experienced and successful business development team, with exposure to complex deals and decision making.
Requirements
To be successful in this role you will have
- Demonstrated success in a senior commercial role in energy. This could be in data, research or SaaS sales, or a background in power markets gained through experience in origination, project development or analytics.
- A strong network across Energy Majors and Utilities in Europe.
- Experience selling into large, complex organisations, working with multiple teams and stakeholders through a multi-faceted sales process.
- A good understanding of behind-the-meter energy projects, such as onsite generation and storage, e-mobility or supply to data centres.
- Demonstrable success in both hitting and exceeding objective targets.
- Ambition, energy and commercial drive. You’ll be a self-starter, comfortable in ambiguity and willing to get stuck in – Gridcog is a dynamic startup environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a strong sense of customer empathy; you build strong and enduring relationships with your clients and with your colleagues in Berlin, Madrid, Melbourne and Perth.
- A willingness to become an expert in the Gridcog software.
We’d also love it if you have
- Familiarity with long-term PPA, Battery as a Service and Energy as a Service commercial structures.
- Technical knowledge in more than one of the following areas: renewable energy, battery storage, microgrids or wholesale energy markets.
- Demonstrated success in a B2B SaaS business.
- Experience using different sales methodologies, particularly with enterprise accounts.
- Startup experience.]]>
