Head of VAT - Financial Services (Hybrid - 2 days in office)

A leading international financial institution is looking for an experienced VAT professional to head its indirect tax function. This is a senior-level opportunity to lead a specialist VAT team within a wider UK tax structure, combining strategic advisory responsibilities with oversight of compliance and risk management.

As Head of VAT, you will play a key role in managing indirect tax obligations across a complex and regulated financial environment. This position offers scope to engage directly with regulatory authorities, guide tax-related decision-making, and contribute to major business transactions and restructurings. The role is based in the UK and offers flexible hybrid working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead and manage the delivery of VAT services, including compliance, advisory, and internal controls.
* Act as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders across various business lines and support functions.
* Coordinate with external partners delivering outsourced VAT compliance, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
* Enhance and maintain robust VAT processes and governance frameworks, including those aligned with UK Senior Accounting Officer requirements.
* Build and sustain a constructive relationship with tax authorities, including regular engagement on current and emerging VAT issues.
* Represent the business at relevant industry forums to stay ahead of regulatory and market developments.
* Provide leadership and development to a dedicated VAT team of four, fostering continuous learning and professional growth.

Candidate Profile:

* Substantial experience in VAT, including team leadership within a large corporate or financial institution.
* Proven track record of navigating indirect tax issues in the financial services sector.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
* Holds a recognised professional qualification (such as CTA, ACA, or equivalent).
* Strong commercial acumen with a proactive approach to tax risk management and operational improvement.
